For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield, which is now pencilled in for September 6, can’t come soon enough.
No matter what you want to see from Bethesda's venture into space at the showcase that’s set to take place on June 11, how many mods you plan to install once it arrives or whether you think you’ll be playing as ‘The Novakiin’, the idea of being able to delve into it soon has RPG lovers of all stripes hyped up.
While the hardcore population of would-be spacers desperately awaiting the game on Reddit have recently been engaging in some very early DLC speculation, one of their number has now focused in on an array of hairstyles hinted at in one of the game’s showcases and ignited a discussion about the grooming options it’ll offer.
Are you going to spend hours choosing the exactly right kind of quiff for your Starfield character?
The wonderfully intense wig-based investigation of the fan in question, user Harrison_Allen, forms the subject of a recent thread on the Starfield subreddit, which they kicked off by declaring: “Based on the position of the slider for hair 19 (as shown in Starfield’s Official Gameplay Reveal from June last year), I've worked out that Starfield has roughly 47-51 female hair options available.”
Backing up their assertion with a screenshot of the slider in question, they added: “47 is a more conservative (estimate) based on the hair colour slider's rightmost position (just in case sliders don't actually go further than that), but if it's filled all the way we get 51. For comparison, Fallout 4 has only 38 female hairstyles available."
Though, the assumption that all of these prospective hairdos would be aimed specifically at female characters might not be accurate, with user PleaseStopSmoking pointing out in the replies: “A lot of games (if not most) now have agender hairstyles, so this may be masculine and feminine hairstyles combined, rather than just feminine."
Either way, this detective work seems to have gone down well among would-be interstellar explorers who love the idea of spending five hours sculpting the perfect visage, with user Junior061989 saying: “Hopefully that means we get a decent amount of beard/facial hair options as well. Especially those of the full and well groomed/well kept variety.”
Meanwhile, a couple of others in the thread suggested that they hope a larger number of the in-game hairstyles will be tailored towards providing more variety for creating racially diverse characters, with extra afro, dreadlock, and braid options being on the wish list.
