Most of the hardcore Bethesda RPG fans who’ve invested thousands of hours into Skyrim and Fallout 4 couldn’t wait for the chance to start digging into Starfield.

Some chose to pass the time until it arrived by getting ready to make some mods for the game, getting caught up in the discourses surrounding leaked aspects of it, or, more recently, reading through the message Todd Howard posted on the game’s subreddit.

With those who paid for early access to the game now being able to set off on their adventures through space, players have already begun to find a variety of interesting easter eggs and encounters, with one being a touching memorial to a fan who unfortunately passed away earlier this year.

Are you glad to see Bethesda have paid tribute to Alex Hay in Starfield?

As spotted and shared to the Starfield subreddit by user HunterWorld, the game contains a brief note paying tribute to Alex Hay, a Starfield fan who died from lung cancer earlier this year.

Before passing away in March, Hay authored a post on the game’s subreddit in which he lamented the idea that, following the game’s release being delayed from late 2022 to September 2023, he likely wouldn’t live long enough to play it.

The post led the Starfield Reddit community to rally around Hay, with many calling on Bethesda to do something to honour him and pledging to pay tribute themselves by, for example, naming their in-game ships after him.

According to HunterWorld, the tribute to Hay in Starfield, which is simply titled “Alex Hay’s Note”, can be found on The Eye, to the right of where you first enter the space port. As shown in their screenshot, reads:

To all my friends and fellow explorers, I’m always with you, out there in the Starfield. Love always, Alex Hay.

A number of the responses from community members to HunterWorld’s post have seen fans reflect that they’re glad to see Bethesda have taken the time to pay tribute to Hay.

“I'm so happy that's in there. Fly high Alex,” said user Spikenthropegg, while Dominunce declared: “This is the only thing I'm happy about being spoiled for me, RIP Alex Hay, you'll journey into the Starfield with us all."
