For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield can’t come soon enough.
Regardless of how you feel about the prospects of Bethesda's venture into space, what you think its version of Earth might look like or whether you like what it looks like in Far Cry 5, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game filled with new quests, characters, and locations has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.
Recently, some of the folks eagerly awaiting their invitation aboard an interstellar transport have been speculating about how their journey across the galaxy might kick off by presenting some rather interesting suggestions for the game’s first line.
How do you think your interstellar journey might begin?
The thread containing their opening-based orations on the Starfield subreddit began with a post from user MinuteScientist7254. They kicked things off by challenging their fellow spacers to: “Predict the first line of dialogue.”, adding that Skyrim’s iconic greeting ‘Hey you, you’re finally awake’ (wasn’t) allowed as a suggestion.
Despite this proviso, their fellow players chimed in with a range of different ideas the referenced existing Bethesda titles, such as user Pliolite’s Fallout-inspired musing: “Space...space never changes.” and Archon1993’s Oblivion-themed answer: “By Azura, by Azura, by Azura! You're playing Starfield!”
On the other hand, user LastPint508 thought the game should take a hit from The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and have: “In the beginning the Universe was created. This made many people very angry and has been widely regarded as a bad move.” as its launch point, while A-21O went for a more serious approach, picking out Anatole France’s quote: “The wonder is, not that the field of stars is so vast, but that man has measured it.”
Meanwhile, user angrysunbird went for a movie-style opening, setting up the scene of a “man standing in room with a gun, no trousers, ten dead ferrets at his feet and hundreds of empty cans of baby formula” and declaring that the line, which would follow a record scratch, should be: “Yup, that’s me. I bet you’re wondering how I got in this situation.”
Others had slightly more unorthodox ideas, such as user ELEMENTALITYNES’ recommendation that the extraterrestrial fun should start with the introduction of a skateboarding character called “John Starfield”, who could introduce the game and then perform a kickflip into a black hole.
