For those who’ve invested thousands of hours into the likes of Skyrim and Fallout 4, the release of Starfield can’t come soon enough.
Regardless of how you feel about the prospects of Bethesda's venture into space or what you think the end goal of its story might be, the idea of being able to delve into a freshly curated game filled with new quests, characters, and locations has RPG lovers of all stripes intrigued.
Currently, some of the game’s most hyped would-be players are recommending each other some sci-fi films and TV shows to watch while they wait for the opportunity to slice through the galaxy in Bethesda’s RPG.
What’s on your pre-Starfield watch list?
The thread containing their space-themed suggestions on the Starfield subreddit began with a post from user IncredibleName, who kicked things off by saying: “I don't watch sci-fi movies often but I am hyped about the game. Any movie recommendations?”
Their fellow would-be astronauts were quick to chime in with a range of ideas, including user Frankie_Dont_Do_It’s pick of Starship Troopers, BigShoots527’s option of Alien, and AceHerb’s list of Interstellar, Ad Astra, and Contact.
User movie_hater lived up to their name by laying out an even more expansive collection of futuristic flicks including the likes of 2001: A Space Odyssey and saying: “This is in no way a comprehensive list of all the great sci-fi films, just ones I like that are similar enough to Starfield’s aesthetic.”
Others in the thread went for TV Series, with user Eric_T_Meraki declaring: “Watch The Expanse. I feel like that'll be the closest feel to what we get with Starfield,” while sharak_214 went for Cowboy Bebop and AbstractMirror recommended Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
Meanwhile, user fenderampeg mused: “I don’t think there are many sci-fi or space games I haven’t at least checked out and back when my phone didn’t exist I read tons of Asimov and his ilk. But of all of those universes the one I want this game to be like the most is Firefly. I want to be a space cowboy.”
