Street Fighter 6 has gotten some serious competition since its release, with Tekken 8 being the most recent, which is why fans were hoping the Ed reveal didn't disappoint and Capcom delivered.
First introduced in Street Fighter V, Ed was mostly a boxer-type of fighter, with Capcom fully committing to him being a pugilist who relies on his fists rather than using a variety of kicks. Of course, all are powered by psycho-power.
His story as a character is a rather bizarre one, being conceived as one of the many replacements bodies of iconic long-time series villain M. Bison. Ed managed to escape such a gruesome fate and founded Neo Shadaloo to help others created for the same fate.
His gameplay is even more interesting than his backstory, according to game director Takayuki Nakayama, Ed does not feature any single kicks (outside of his level 2 super), featuring a vast array of punches and flicker jabs.
His best tool in neutral seems to be the Psycho Flicker. It allows Ed to throw a quick jab in three different directions (high, mid, and low), making a good anti-air tool as well as quickly check opponents that aren't blocking low.
The move even has a follow-up, Psycho Snatcher, which is done by holding the button after performing a flicker, allowing Ed to pull opponents close to him using psycho-powered tendrils, opening more combo routes and letting him continue with his pressure on block potentially.
Ed will be released on February 27, soon after Capcom Cup ends. It's expected that the fourth and final DLC of season 1, Akuma, will be shown at the event.
