The Nintendo Switch 2 has finally been unveiled, and it’s everything we imagined—plus more. With a larger 7.9-inch screen, magnetic Joy-Cons, a revamped UI, and an impressive lineup of new games like Mario Kart World, one particular feature has everyone curious: the ‘C’ button on the right Joy-Con. Now, we finally have the answer.

The ‘C’ button serves as the GameChat button, allowing players to connect with friends and family while staying immersed in the game. Utilizing the Nintendo Switch 2’s built-in microphone, players can talk to their friends seamlessly. It even includes noise cancellation to filter out unwanted background sounds.

Beyond voice chat, players can adjust the game screen size, chat with friends, and enjoy real-time interactions online. The feature also supports watching other players’ streams—though, as always, stream quality depends on internet connection stability.

The ‘C’ button is also integral to Nintendo’s in-game streaming system, essentially turning GameChat into the company’s own version of Discord.

Additionally, Nintendo is introducing the official Nintendo Switch 2 Camera, a licensed accessory designed for streaming games directly to friends via GameChat. Players can even use the camera to create mini-avatars in select titles. The camera will be available at launch.

This bold move from Nintendo explains the absence of Discord support on the platform. With GameChat, Nintendo aims to foster seamless social connections directly within its ecosystem.

A Nintendo Switch Online membership is required to use GameChat, but players will have the chance to try it for free when GameChat Open Access launches on March 31, 2026.
