Earlier today, CD Projekt Red unveiled new gameplay footage of The Witcher 4, showcasing the power of Unreal Engine 5.6 during a presentation at Unreal Fest in Orlando. At the event, the highly anticipated Witcher 4 took center stage.

The gameplay footage serves as a tech demo, highlighting what Unreal’s latest proprietary engine can deliver, and it’s looking very promising. Beyond the technical advancements and rendering optimizations, what stood out most to players was just how impressive the game looks.

The gameplay we saw features Ciri, presumably walking through a village near a frozen river, speaking with townsfolk. The demonstration showed her movement in gameplay, and CD Projekt Red has kept the third-person camera perspective that the series is known for.

According to the presentation, Witcher 4 is capable of running at 60 frames per second on consoles, thanks to the new rendering methods of Unreal Engine 5.6.

Ciri’s New Look

In the demonstration, CD Projekt Red introduced a new look for Ciri, the game’s new main character and the adopted daughter of Geralt and Yennefer. The story takes place after The Witcher 3, following an ending in which Ciri survives and becomes a Witcher. This is suggested by the two swords on her back, symbolizing the classic Witcher pairing of silver and steel.

The showcase not only revealed Ciri’s updated design but also highlighted improved cloth physics and dynamic NPC behavior. Multiple characters were shown moving throughout a village with varied animations, adding to the realism.

Kovir’s Lan Exeter as a New Location

CD Projekt Red also revealed a new location at the end of the showcase. Witcher 4 will take place in Kovir, specifically in the city of Lan Exeter, a setting familiar to fans of the Witcher books and series.

Lan Exeter lies in the northern region of the Continent and serves as a major port city in Kovir, a kingdom well known for its prosperous mining industry.

While the reason for Ciri’s journey to this region remains unclear, it may be tied to her search for answers about her powerful lineage as she continues to uncover more about herself.

Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red has not yet revealed any combat sequences, possibly reserving that content for this week’s Summer Game Fest Opening Night Live. No release date has been announced either.
