The Call of Duty League (CDL) headed to Texas for the third Major event of the Modern Warfare 2 season. The four-day tournament was packed with incredible action ranging from unthinkable comebacks to impossible clutches.
The third Major is the last event before the Season Two Reloaded update which includes another batch of content that could make its way into the competitive landscape if the world’s best players deem it viable.
Major three came down to the hometown heroes of OpTic Texas taking on Toronto Ultra in a thrilling grand final. The Canadian franchise knocked down the Green Wall to secure its first title of the 2023 season.
Toronto Ultra: Major 3 champions
Heading into the event, most eyes were on how an Optic Texas without Seth ‘Scump’ Abner could perform and while they narrowly evaded defeat after dropping into the elimination bracket, Toronto battled through the winner’s bracket to secure their place in the final.
En route to the winner’s circle, the team comprised of players from the UK, Denmark, and the United States ended Atlanta FaZe’s record-breaking 15 Search and Destroy win streak. With the momentum rolling, Ultra disassembled the Green Wall brick-by-brick to take home $200,000 in prize money.
Ultra’s win marks the third different winner in the 2023 CDL season. Toronto joins the New York Subliners and Atlanta FaZe as the latest team to achieve victory and with only two more events until the season-ending CDL Championship, it’s all to play for as the battle to secure a place in the top-eight intensifies.
