The heretic slaying continues as the sequel to Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun, following the original’s retro first-person shooter style, has been officially announced and will be bigger in almost every way.

Boltgun 2 is being developed by Auroch Digital and is planned for release in 2026 on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S. The game was revealed at the Warhammer Skulls 2025 event, and from the early preview, it’s obvious it plans to up its chainsword action and outdo the original.

The story picks up right after the first game, bringing back Malum Caedo, the gruff, no-nonsense Space Marine protagonist. Players will suit up in power armor again and battle the forces of Chaos, but now the battlefield is much bigger.

Boltgun 2 drops the linear corridors and brings in a branching campaign where mission paths shift depending on your choices. The environments are more varied and include hive cities, jungle swamps, and other harsh landscapes from the Warhammer 40K universe.

The game stays true to its boomer shooter style, taking cues from '90s classics like Doom and Quake, with smooth movement and fast-paced action. The combat stays intense and wild, but now with clear improvements.

The enemy lineup returns classic opponents such as Nurglings and Chaos Cultists and introduces fresh dangers like the demonic Bloodletters riding massive Juggernauts.

The weapons have been upgraded, giving more options to turn enemies into gory chunks. And to make sure players don’t get lost in the carnage, the sequel introduces a new in-game navigation system that helps guide players across chaotic maps.

Boltgun 2 is still a ways off, but fans don’t have to wait to get their Warhammer fix. Boltgun 2 isn’t the only thing coming in the wider Warhammer 40K universe.

Fans are in for a big year with Space Marine 2, Dark Heresy, and additional remasters and expansions announced. In the end, Boltgun 2 doesn’t just stick to what worked before—it’s doubling down. More weapons, more enemies, more freedom, and more style.

The game honors classic FPS action with Warhammer 40K’s signature brutal edge. If the first game got you hyped to purge the heretics, the sequel looks like it’ll give you even more reasons to keep stomping them into dust.
