Popular professional wrestler Will Ospreay finally made one of his dreams come true by wearing an Assassin's Creed cosplay on his way to a match during Wrestle Kingdom 18.
For those out of the loop, Wrestle Kingdom is the biggest event of the year for New Japan Pro Wrestling, the most important wrestling company in the country, think what WrestleMania is for WWE in North America.
Ospreay, who has been one of the most important performers in the industry for the last decade, has been a known Assassin's Creed fan, usually donning costumes inspired by the franchise. At one point in his career, he was dubbed the Aerial Assassin, becoming widely known for his agility in the ring.
Although Will Ospreay's Aerial Assassin persona is now used only on special matches, the bout he had at WK18 against Jon Moxley (formerly known as Dean Ambrose in WWE) and David Finlay was one such occasion. What made the match even more exciting was the fact that the gear he wore was not just inspired by the Ubisoft franchise, but it was an actual cosplay.
Inspired by Jacob Frye, Assassin's Creed Syndicate protagonist, Ospreay wore a long leather coat, an undeniably British top hat, and even sported a hidden blade within his glove, which of course he didn't use during the match because that'd be cheating (or not depending on who you ask).
Sadly for Ospreay, the shiny new gear was not enough to get him over the edge at Wrestle Kingdom, losing the brand-new IGWP Global Championship to David Finlay.
This isn't the first time we've seen wrestlers come out sporting gaming gear. While there have been indirect homages, perhaps the best one aside from Ospreay's happened at last year's Wrestle Kingdom, when Kenny Omega walked down the ramp wearing a Sephiroth cosplay as Nobuo Uematsu's epic One Winged Angel played in the background.
Funnily enough that match also involved Ospreay, with Omega beating the British to win the now-defunct IWGP United States Heavyweight Championship. Perhaps cosplays are a bad omen for Will?
