Given CD Projekt Red’s sudden announcements of a massive assortment of upcoming titles including an Unreal Engine 5 remake of the first Witcher game and the imminent arrival of The Witcher 3’s next-gen update, fans have plenty of reason to jump back into the series right now.

For those doing just that on PC, mods can provide a number of interesting ways to spice up the experience, such as allowing you to roleplay as a non-witcher version of Geralt, get an idea of what he might look like if he joined ZZ Top or went clothes shopping in Night City.

A new mod is also perfect for those currently preparing to embark on a new playthrough of The Witcher 3 to celebrate its next-gen update, helping to make the game’s cities and landscapes look breath-taking from a distance.

If you’re thinking of returning to The Continent and want to truly appreciate its beauty, this is the mod for you

The mod in question is called ‘Uber LOD’ and is the work of a group of modders led by Scoutbr0, whose previous solo work has overhauled the game’s night sky and ensure that the city of Beauclair will be restored to its full glory following the events of the Blood and Wine DLC.

This time, they’ve teamed up with a gaggle of other modders, whose info you can find in the mod’s description, to overhaul the level-of-detail visible on the game’s architectural structures “by increasing the quality and rendering distance of objects.”

The mod, which Scoutbr0 cites as having been in development for around three years, gives those with hardware capable of handling it the ability to enjoy gazing at locations like Novigrad and Kaer Morhen from afar by changing mechanics like rendering distances and ensuring that you’ll only be seeing the most high-quality of meshes.

While you might still happen across some locations that aren’t affected by the mod, the majority of the base game’s areas are covered in a way that will impact performance, but shouldn’t make the game unplayable as long as you’ve got a punchy enough setup.

If you give it a go and find that things don’t grind to a measly five frames per second, you can also grab two other new mods by Scoutbr0, ‘Uber LOD - Trees and Vegetation’ and ‘Uber LOD - Characters and Items’, which apply similar effects to the items included in their names.
