Godfall Developers Insist Upcoming Challenger Edition Is Not a Trial

It's not been the smoothest week for Godfall. Announced as one of PlayStation Plus' free games for December, it's also appearing as an Epic Game Store freebie from December 9th - 16th. However, both platforms aren't getting the full game but rather, the "Challenger Edition."

Only granting access to Godfall's endgame content, many have criticised developers Counterplay for their pricing strategy, comparing it to a "paid demo" or "trial edition". Challenger Edition normally costs $14.99, and opting to buy the full content through a "Deluxe Edition" costs another $45.

However, speaking to Eurogamer, a Counterplay spokesperson denied this accusation. While we don't have the full quote, Eurogamer advised:

Today, a spokesperson for developer Counterplay told Eurogamer that the Challenger Edition was "not a trial", but a new cut-price, limited-feature edition.

Personally, we'd be surprised if branding Godfall as a "cut-price, limited-feature edition" quells players criticisms, as some are claiming they won't redeem it at all on either platform. We'll keep you informed with further details as they happen.
