So, what is, truly, the GTA Online fastest car? More often than not, when people are asking about 'the best cars' what they really mean is 'what are the fastest cars'. The vehicle that can get them from A to B in the quickest time possible, sometimes because a fast time can equate to more money from races, missions and more. Speed is sometimes king in a game such as GTA Online.
To help decide which motors are indeed the fastest in the State of San Andreas we've pulled together a list of the fastest cars in GTA Online. This covers both the fastest cars for pure acceleration and top speed, as well as the fastest cars for anyone wanting to compete in races across the City of Los Santos. We'll not only tell you what the best cars are for both scenarios but also, where you can buy them and how much they cost. It won't be cheap though, so consider trying to complete a few objectives to get a Trade Price to save on some cash.
What is the fastest car in GTA Online?
If you want to know the answer to 'what is the fastest car in GTA Online,' then you need not look further than the Grotti Vigilante. This Weaponized Super Car was added as part of the Smuggler's Run update in October 27, 2017, and is modelled on the Batmobile from Batman & Batman Returns.
Now, technically, the Grotti Vigilante benefits from having some unnatural capabilities such as the "Rocket Boost" feature; and it's this which helps it achieve that #1 status in the game.
If you want to know what the fastest car in GTA Online is that doesn't have these slightly cheaty extra features, then there's only one winner: the Ocelot Pariah.
The pacy Sports car is faster than a number of Supercars by some distance, comfortably outpacing the rest with a top speed of 136mph (218.87 km/h). To put that into context, the Grotti Vigilante tops out at 147mph. Only 9mph faster than the Pariah.
GTA Online Fastest Cars - The Best For Top Speed
The five cars listed below are currently the fastest cars in the game when taking into consideration pure straight-line speed. Nothing more, nothing less. These are not necessarily the best cars for racing (we'll get into that further down) and they do not include non-raceable vehicles. So don't expect to see the likes of the Scramjet, Annis ZR380 or the previously mentioned Grotti Vigilante, because they're practically GTA cheats at this point thanks to those rocket boosts and whatnot.
When it comes to the cars that we have included in our list, the top speeds were accurately tested by YouTuber Broughy1322 and you can watch his analysis on the below YouTube video too for some further insight. If you're interested to know how he arrived at these five cars as the fastest of the bunch, there's also a full explanation of the methodology that explains how the Top Speed values were calculated, which you can also read on the link.

GTA Online Fastest Cars - The Best For Lap Times
As we've touched on before, the fastest cars in GTA Online do not necessarily equate to the fastest cars when it comes to those all-important races. In fact, a number of the 'fastest' cars are not actually that great when it comes to racing because they have less than optimal braking, acceleration, handling, and weight. The Ocelot Pariah, for instance, tends to have a lot of understeer, so whilst it may be quick, it's not great in the corners.
Without further ado, here's a look at the top 5 fastest cars in GTA Online when looking at the best lap times. Once again, these were tested by Broughy on a pretty standard race circuit in GTA Online. Likewise, if you'd like to understand the methodology used by Broughy to work out the lap times, follow the link.
