Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy is currently on Xbox Game Pass but it didn’t come cheap, as Microsoft reportedly paid Square Enix $5-to-$10 million to get this game.
Industry Analyst David Gibson recently spoke about the process of bringing big-name titles to Microsoft's subscription service, using the aforementioned licenced game as an example of partnership costs. Gibson says he's been talking with Square Enix for years, explaining he got these rough estimates.

Despite Square Enix claiming that Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy performed below expectations, the third-person shooter received praise from fans and critics alike. While the title’s linear nature was a point of contention, most agreed that the story and shooting mechanics were done well.
