Pathfinder is one of the easiest ways to stay on course in Assassin's Creed Shadows, though it's not immediately available from the start.

Once it becomes available partway through the story, after a key mission involving Naoe and her family, you'll want to know how to use it properly.

Doing so can seriously improve how you get around the map.

Whether you're on a quest or wandering through feudal Japan, here's everything you need to activate and make the most of Pathfinder.

How To Activate Pathfinder in Assassin's Creed Shadows

To activate Pathfinder, hold Right on the D-pad if you're using a controller, or hold the Tab key on the PC.

This works only when you're outside (either on foot or horseback) and actively following a quest or have a pin on the map.

Once it's toggled, you'll see a glowing white line on the ground showing the best route to your destination. Keep in mind that the line may not show up when you're deep in the forest or off the main roads.

If the trail disappears, try heading back toward more walkable terrain or a marked path.

When visiting multiple places like question marks or points of interest, start with the final stop and place your map markers in reverse order.

That way, the Pathfinder system takes you through all the locations in the order you set.

You can also use Pathfinder to find climbable paths when crossing steep hills or rugged mountain areas.

It's not a cure-all for navigation, but it works well on difficult terrain.

If you're in for a long ride or walk, there's also an auto-move option that goes great with Pathfinder. To activate it, press Z on the PC or double-tap A (Xbox) / X (PS5). The character moves forward by itself, and all you need to do is steer.

And that sums up what you need to know about using Pathfinder in Assassin's Creed Shadows.

If you're also unsure how to call your horse, there's a full guide on that right here.
