With Baldur's Gate 3 coming to PlayStation 5 now, and Xbox Series X|S later in the year, the player base is asking whether Larian Studios ever plan on bringing crossplay into the game. So let's take a look at whether or not crossplay is coming to Baldur's Gate 3.

Baldur's Gate 3 has been a massive success, forging a rock-steady path for the future of RPGs, and so it comes as no surprise that people are keen to learn whether or not they can play with their friends with ease. Since you can have a party of up to four players, there's a lot to be said for how great the co-op gameplay can be.

Is Baldur's Gate 3 crossplay?

We can confirm that, yes, crossplay is certainly on Larian's roadmap for Baldur's Gate 3. This hopefully means that players on every platform, between PC, PlayStation, and eventually Xbox, will be able to group up and take on quests within Faerun together.

The director of publishing for Larian Studios, Michael Douse, has said to Eurogamer that the intention to implement crossplay has always been something that they wish to bring to their sprawling Dungeons & Dragons-inspired RPG. However, it was something that just wasn't quite feasible at the initial launch of the game.

The studio wanted to prioritise a smooth launch, which is entirely understandable. Michael Douse has confirmed that crossplay is definitely in the roadmap for Baldur's Gate 3, however, which is awesome news for the future of the game.

When will crossplay come to Baldur's Gate 3?

As it stands, Larian Studios hasn't given a confirmed, or even approximated, timeframe for crossplay in Baldur's Gate 3. But it seems that it's more a question of when rather than if. Larian is reluctant to put a date on it, but it's definitely in the works.

This will come as a welcome promise to players on console, however. The PC launch of Baldur's Gate 3 happened in August 2023, with the PlayStation version launching quickly after in September 2023. The game is set to launch on Xbox hopefully by the end of the year.

Crossplay is a natural progression for the title, with the game fully supporting both keyboard and mouse as well as controller inputs. With Larian Studios working tirelessly to bring out quality of life patches, it seems that crossplay will soon be another great addition to an already much-loved title.
