In Baldur's Gate 3, you'll encounter an area of ruins at Waukeen's Rest, wherein you must rescue some survivors from a fire. One of these survivors is a man who had lost his beloved to the incident and is looking for a dowry. We'll walk you through how to find the dowry in Baldur's Gate 3.
You'll meet Benryn, the man who had just lost his wife to the fire. Benryn narrates that he and his wife had fought over a dowry prior to this tragedy. This premise plays a crucial role in the decision you'll make later on.
Once you've heard Benryn's story and gotten to the quest of finding the dowry, perhaps you could take the time to check out our other content, such as how to get to Moonrise Towers and how to get past noxious fumes.
How to find the dowry in Baldur's Gate 3
When first encountering this situation in the Rescue the Trapped Man quest, you'll arrive at Waukeen's Rest, which is north of the Blighted Village waypoint. After you rescue Benryn, the man who lost his wife and her dowry, you'll then be tasked to find the dowry and be given the decision on what to do with it.
You must first speak with Benryn and pass a strength check to free him. Next, you'll be able to help and escort him to safety. Upon doing so, Benryn will then reveal he's looking for his late wife, Miri's dowry.
To find the dowry, you can first try approaching the hay in the barn, which can trigger a perception check in-game. If you're successful, you can investigate the hay for the dowry. Another option you have is to go to the second floor of the western building and cast Speak with the Dead to summon Miri's dead body to learn more about the dowry chest.
The dowry chest is hidden in the barn's lower level, wherein you'll find it within the haystack. Once you open the chest, you'll find a dowry ring. You have the option to either keep the ring to yourself and sell it or return it to Benryn.
Should you keep or return the dowry?
If you're indecisive on whether you should keep or return the dowry, well, you've come to the right place.
The dowry ring amounts to 115 gold, which can obviously be used to purchase the best weapons, for example. There are also no moral consequences for selling the chest or the dowry ring.
However, if you return the dowry ring to Benryn, you won't gain any advantage from this. Astarion will also disapprove if you just hand the ring over to Benryn.
With that, it's best you sell the dowry ring as it can net you some gold, and there aren't any major ramifications for doing.
