Are you trying to acquire Outlander inspirations in Baldur's Gate 3? This background can be selected during character creation, and it's also the default background for Karlach, one of your companions, granting a bonus to your Athletics and Survival skills.

This guide explains how to earn Baldur's Gate 3 Outlander inspirations. These are akin to mini-achievements that you unlock during the campaign. In turn, you receive points that let you reroll failed skill checks.

How to get Outlander inspiration in Baldur's Gate 3

To gain Baldur's Gate 3 Outlander inspiration, you need to be mindful of the background's description; for starters: You grew up in the wilds, learning to survive far from the comforts of civilization. Surviving the unusual hazards of the wild will enhance your prowess and understanding.

The background implies that characters are more than comfortable living in harsh environments. We're not talking about your average forests or mountains, but dangerous and foreboding locations. As such, the inspirations you unlock come from the Shadow-Cursed Lands, due to deadly magics that can kill your characters.

We've listed several examples of Baldur's Gate 3 Outlander inspirations that we've seen during our playthrough. Make sure an Outlander character is with your team so you can receive the points.

List of Outlander inspirations

No Cursed Stone Left Unturned - Explore each key area/sub-zone in the Shadow-Cursed Lands to get this inspiration.

Bumps in the Dark - Win three fights in the Shadow-Cursed Lands.

Sleeping in the Dark - Do a long rest while exploring the overworld area of the Shadow-Cursed Lands.

Grove Keeper's Keeper - Complete Halsin's quest chain, which culminates in a major encounter against multiple enemy waves.

I've Had Worse - There's a tavern south of Last Light Inn. You need to pass several checks to continue drinking the brew. The macabre monster you're competing against will drop dead.

Child's Play - In the eastern portion of the zone, you'll find a child named Oliver; he wants to play hide and seek. When he attempts to hide for a second time, make sure you don't get spotted/detected by the dark creatures.

Tools of the Trade - In the Gauntlet of Shar, you'll encounter an Orthon out of nowhere. You can either defeat him in battle or convince him and his followers to return to hell for good. Loot his ashes to pick up his crossbow.

Always a Step Ahead of the Darkness - You must reach the Nightsong deep in the Thorm Mausoleum/Gauntlet of Shar without being affected by the Shadow Curse. That means you've found a way to completely negate its effects while exploring.
