Dead by Daylight introduced it's biggest chapter yet with the reveal of a collaboration between them and Dungeons and Dragons. Not only did it bring a stunning new map, but original Survivors to pair up alongside the biggest baddie in D&D history: Vecna. And with our best Dead by Daylight Vecna build guide, we'll show you how to use him effectively.

There is a lot to love about Vecna, even more so if you're a fan of the Dungeons and Dragons Forgotten Realms setting. However, as a Killer, he requires a level of practice and precision that makes him live up to his moderate difficulty.

That said, Vecna is also incredibly fun to play. He has a handful of abilities, and while all are situational, they are perfect for zoning a Survivor into a situation where you can injure, and then down them. If all of this sounds difficult to understand then don't fret, just read on where we'll explain just how to benefit from Vecna's abilities.

Dead by Daylight Vecna Perks

Vecna has three unique perks that can be unlocked for other killers via the Bloodweb.

Dark Arrogance

You increase your Vaulting speed by 15/20/25%. However, it also permanently increases the duration of Killer Blinds and Stuns by 25%.

Languid Touch

When a Survivor scares a Crow within 36 meters of your location, this perk activates. It causes the Survivor to suffer from the Exhausted Status Effect for 6/8/10 seconds.

Weave Attunement

Whenever a Survivor's item is depleted for the first time, it is automatically dropped. The Auras of dropped Survivor items are revealed to you, as well as any Survivors within 12 meters of them.

Survivors who pick up an item -- regardless of whether it is depleted or not -- suffer from the Oblivious Status effect for 20/25/30 seconds.

What is the best build and perks for Vecna?

We would go with the following perks for the best possible build for Vecna aka The Lich:

Barbecue and Chilli

This perk highlights the Auras of Survivors who are more than 60/50/40 meters away after putting a downed Survivor on a hook.

This perk is particularly useful for Vecna due to his Fly ability. It allows him to speed over toward a Survivor in record time to score that all-important hit and keep up the momentum of chases.

Friends Til The End

Whenever you hook a Survivor that is not the Obsession, the following effects apply to the Survivor that is the Obsession.

  • Their Aura is revealed for 6/8/10 seconds.
  • They suffer from the Exposed status effect for 20 seconds.

However, when you hook the Obsession, the following effects apply to a random Survivor:

  • The Survivor screams and reveals their location to the Killer.
  • They become the new Obsession.

While this might be overkill on the Aura reading, especially with BBQ and Chilli, this a perfect way

Surge

Whenever a Survivor is downed via a basic attack from the Killer, Surge activates, and Generators within 32 meters of your location instantly explode and start regressing. It instantly regresses affected Generators by 6/7/8%.

Hex: Plaything

If at least one Dull Totem is remaining in the Trial Grounds, Hex: Plaything activates on a random Totem each time a Survivor is hooked for the first time.

The hooked Survivor suffers from the Cursed and Oblivious Status Effects until Hex: Plaything is cleansed. For the first 90 seconds, only the Cursed Survivor can cleanse the Hex Totem.

The Aura of Hex: Plaything's Hex Totem is revealed to the Cursed Survivor within 24/20/16 meters. All effects of the Hex Perk persist until its Hex Totem is cleansed or blessed.

This perk allows Vecna to sneak up on Survivors fairly efficiently, particularly with the use of his Fly ability and the extra aura reading from other perks in this build.

Dead by Daylight Vecna Powers

Vecna's power is called Vile Darkness. This gives Vecna four magical spells that can be selected in-game, all of which have their own uses and cooldown time.

These four spells are:

  • Fly - Grants the ability to fly across the environment with a speed of 6.92 m/s and a speed cooldown of 2.3 m/s for 2.5 seconds.
  • Flight of the Damned - Conjures 5 Flying Entities that pass through obstacles and will injure/down Survivors if it hits them.
  • Dispelling Sphere - Grants the ability to cast a slow-moving, invisible sphere that reveals Survivors through Killer instinct. It also disables magic items for 60 seconds.
  • Mage Hand - Conjures a Magical Hand that can lift dropped Pallets back upright, or block Pallets upright for 4 seconds.

Alongside his spells, Vecna's presence grants Survivors new special treasure chests. These Treasure Chests contain magical items, all unique and all able to to help Survivors in their fight against Vecna.

These magical items are the following:

  • The Skyguard - Reveals the Aura of Vecna whenever he uses the Fly spell.
  • The Nightwatch - The Auras of Flying Entities during Flight of the Damned are revealed.
  • The Archivist - The Dispelling Sphere is no longer invisible.
  • The Interloper - The Auras of Pallets affected by Mage Hand are revealed. It also grants a 7% Haste Status Effect for 3 seconds.

If a player rolls a natural 20 on a treasure chest, they will get one of the following two items:

  • The Hand of Vecna - Rushing into a Locker teleports the Survivor to a different Locker that is at least 10 meters away.
  • The Eye of Vecna - Rushing out of a Locker makes it so that the Survivor is invisible, grants 25% Haste, and completely suppresses their Aura, Scratch Markets, Blood Pools, and Grunts of Pain for 12 seconds.

It should be noted that both of these items require attunement. Using them will cost Survivors a health state and trigger Killer Instinct once used.

Best Dead by Daylight Vecna Add-Ons

Vecna is a Killer who relies on using his abilities to push Survivors away from areas of safety and into dead zones. The longer they are in a dead zone, the likelier it is for you to get a hit on them. Also, several add-ons make Vecna's whole kit much stronger.

Here is a selection of the best add-ons to use for Vecna in Dead by Daylight.

Ring of Spell Restoring

Permanently reduces the Cooldown timer of all Spells by -4 seconds.

Cloak of Elvenkind

Loading...

Reduces the Terror Radius by -8 meters while the Fly Spell is active.

Lantern of Revealing

The Auras of Survivors narrowly missed by Flying Entities summoned by the Flight of the Damned Spell are revealed to you for 3 seconds.

Dead by Daylight Vecna Tips and Tricks

  • Vecna's Flight of the Damned works best when a Survivor is heading towards an elevated area, like stairs, a house, or even a hill. Use it then to catch Survivors off guard or force them to crouch so they slow down, and you can get a free hit.
  • The Dispelling Sphere is best used in enclosed areas like jungle gyms and houses, as the Killer Instinct allows you to navigate where Survivors are going with ease.
  • Vecna is an extremely situational Killer, so don't be scared to use all of his abilities to see which works best.
  • Vecna is able to use his Fly ability to soar over Pallets and through windows, effectively making structures like the Killer Shack a dead zone.
  • Mage Hand is best used at unsafe pallets, aka pallets that leave no other choice but to head into an area with very little faults or structures like jungle gyms.
