Call of Duty Zombies makes another round with Black Ops 6. This time, though, there are loads of expectations since Treyarch’s brought back multiple fan-favorite features with the game mode. The current round-based format for Zombies is an excellent example here. There are also new arrivals—like Augments- with various features returning.

While the feature looks interesting and can significantly impact how gamers play Zombies, little information is available about it. Judging by its significance, it’s vital to have a basic understanding of it. Here’s a detailed guide explaining Augments in Black Ops 6 Zombies.

Consider Augments as a level-up or an upgrade, specifically for your Perk-A-Colas, Ammo Mods, or Field Upgrades. They’re divided into two categories: Major and Minor Augments. As the name suggests, Major Augments significantly influence the item to which you’ll apply them, while Minor ones will not.

There are a few points to note here, though. Firstly, Augments aren’t available to players from the get-go. You will have to unlock them through Research (discussed below.) You cannot directly select the Augments you want to unlock; you can only do so after reaching level 11.

Since each item (Perk-a-Cola, Ammo Mod, and Field Upgrades) has these buffs tied to them, it is recommended to initially focus on ones that you typically use or find beneficial.

Unlocking either of the Major or Minor Augments requires Research. You’ll have to locate the Research Augments option from the Augments menu to do so. Once there, you’ll notice that all Augments for a particular item aren’t unlocked.

That’s because you unlock new Augments once you research the current ones.

Once you activate the research, you’ll see a progress meter. Researching an Augment isn’t particularly hard, though it does require grinding since the progression is fundamentally XP-based, where each Zombie match and S.A.M Trials are bound to make a huge impact. It also means that the more you play, the more likely you will unlock Augments quickly.

Each type of item has a different set of Augments available, and once you start with the grind, you’ll soon see new Augments pop up. While it’s easy to be taken away by the shiny-object syndrome here, we suggest unlocking the Augments, which are related to the items you generally use during a match—at least for the most part.

Once you’ve unlocked a few Augments, you can activate them for the item you want by simply moving onto the Equip Augments screen. Remember, though: you can only activate one Major and one Minor Augment for the item you want, so be strategic for a well-optimized kit.
