Facing the Paintress and many enemies in Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 is no easy task. You will take damage and fail a lot of times, but having the best build for Expedition 33 members, such as Sciel, can lighten the load on the players.

You will have choices for her weapons and attribute focus, skills, Pictos, and Luminas to form the best build possible for Sciel. She can be built to have damage, but her kit contains some of the best support utilities in the game (alongside Lune).

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Best Sciel Build

I'll have to be honest and say that I'm biased towards Sciel since she's my favorite among all the Expedition 33 members (but no one can beat my love for Esquie). She was once a farmer and teacher back in Lumiere, and now she is part of the Expedition to try and defeat the Paintress. She wields a scythe as a nod to her previous profession.

Understanding Sciel's Kit

Sciel's unique mechanic or passive focuses on her Foretell. Specific skills (Sun) can be applied to enemies, and Moon-aligned skills consume these Foretell stacks. When out of the Twilight phase, the max Foretell stack that an enemy can have is 10. Always take note of the conditions that Sciel's skills have to make the most out of them.

For example, Searing Bond deals damage and applies Foretell to Burning enemies. If you choose to include it in your skill set (especially in the earlier to mid stages of the game), it can synergize with Maelle, Lune's, and some of Monoco's skills.

Once you have both Sun and Moon charges, Sciel's Foretell will switch to the Twilight phase. Here are the effects if you have the Sun, Moon, or Twilight Charges:

  • Sun: Gives 1 AP per Foretell that is consumed
  • Moon: Gives 1 AP per Foretell that is applied
  • Twilight: Provides +50% damage and doubles the Foretell applied. The max Foretell stack is also doubled (Maximum stack: 20 Foretell per enemy)

Support / Offensive Build

Sciel's skill set makes her versatile among the Expedition 33 crew. Throughout my initial playthrough, I've mainly built her with both support and damage in mind. It's leaning more towards having a support build since I have Maelle as my DPS. Despite that, she can still deal a decent amount of damage to enemies while keeping everyone alive (applicable for a team build, since there are many solo builds now).

Weapon

Focusing on Sciel's support capabilities, you will benefit from having Rangeson as your weapon choice. You can purchase it from Jerijeri once you defeat him in a match in Stone Wall Cliffs.

  • Rangeson
    • Element: Dark
    • Attribute focus: Defense, Agility

When you first acquire the weapon, the Level 4 passive allows Sciel to recover 5% of her health per Foretell she applies. At Level 10, it lessens the AP cost of Healing Skills by 1. Lastly, at Level 20, Sciel's Heal efficiency is increased by 30% per Moon charge. Her Base Attack also gives 1 Moon charge.

  • Ramasson
    • Element: No specific element
    • Attribute focus: Vitality, Luck

Another great weapon for Support build Sciel is the Ramasson, which I got early on in the Forgotten Battlefield. I believe it will drop after defeating the Ramasseur. At Level 4, it can consume 1 Moon charge, and on its turn, it starts to recover 20% of each of her allies' HP. At Level 10, her base attack gives 1 Moon charge; at Level 20, Moon skills give one more charge. Nothing fancy, but still helpful if you don't have the other weapons.

While Sciel will take the Support role, it doesn't stop Charnon from being one of her best weapons in the game. Since there will be a lot of AP-generating Pictos and Luminas in the late game, it won't hurt to have this weapon, which increases her damage capabilities. It gives many critical chances and damage, but you'd better practice your parries and dodges.

Skills

I initially wanted Sciel to be my primary damage dealer (I was heavily biased since I love her as a character), but she does have skills that increase damage depending on the number of Foretell an enemy has. However, after analyzing her skills, I deemed having her as a Sub-DPS or Support was better. With that, her best Support skills are the following:

  • Plentiful Harvest
  • Grim Harvest
  • Intervention
  • Fortune's Fury

Again, one of the best supports in the game is Sciel with her skills. Both Plentiful Harvest and Grim Harvest still deal damage and use Sciel's Foretell mechanic, providing AP and heals to the party. Intervention lets an Expedition 33 member take their turn and gives them 4 AP. Fortune's Fury is also great since it doubles an ally's damage for 1 turn.

  • Final Path
  • Twilight Dance

It's still best to have some damage-dealing skills in her kit. My go-to 9-cost skills are Final Path and Twilight Dance. I stick with Final Path since Plentiful Harvest and Grim Harvest need Foretell. Only choose one of these two, then replace the last slot with a low-cost Foretell-applying skill such as:

  • Bad Omen (Multiple enemies)
  • Marking Card (Single target but applies Mark)

Pictos and Luminas

As with the other Expedition 33 members, I make sure to put in a lot of AP-generating Pictos and Luminas on Sciel so she can keep applying Foretell and using her support abilities. I also slide in some damage-enhancing ones. Here are the ones you should include in your Pictos and Luminas for Sciel:

  • Energising Start (I to IV)
  • Energising Turn
  • Energising Jump
  • Energising Heal
  • Protecting Heal
  • Healing Counter
  • Immaculate
  • Glass Canon
