June 7, 2023: Diablo 4 is out now, so read up on everything you need to know about Paragon Boards!

In this Diablo 4 Paragon Boards guide, we are going to discuss this game-changing feature. With Diablo 4 finally out now, Paragon Boards are one of the biggest new additions to the game.

In this guide, we'll explain exactly what Paragon Boards are in Diablo 4. Alongside that, we'll break down how to get the crucial currency Paragon Points, and what you'll spend them on.

What are Paragon Boards in Diablo 4?

Paragon Boards are a new type of endgame progression in Diablo 4. They look like huge boards, filled with numerous colourful squares, each containing their own attribute. You can use Paragon Points to unlock these squares or tiles and get their bonuses.

What are Paragon Points and how to get them

Paragon Points can be obtained by getting Paragon Levels. This feature was introduced in Diablo 3, and it’s nice to see that it returns here. There, it worked like special levels you can obtain after you maxed your character out.

In Diablo 4, you get four Paragon Points per Paragon Level, and there are 50 of them in total. So, the highest number of Paragon Points you can have is 200, but don’t think that you’ll have enough of them. Paragon Boards will eat all of them quickly!

How to unlock Paragon Boards in Diablo 4

In order to unlock Paragon Boards in Diablo 4, you will need to reach your first Paragon Level. So, it should happen after you level up your character to level 50. This is the moment where you stop getting normal levels, and start getting the Paragon ones instead. So, the maximum level of your character is 100, if we sum up 50 standard levels and 50 Paragon Levels.

How do Paragon Boards work in Diablo 4?

When you first unlock this mechanic in Diablo 4, you start at the middle of your first Paragon Board. In order to progress through it, you will have to spend Paragon Points to unlock adjacent tiles. Here is the list of them:

  • Normal Tiles
  • Magic Tiles
  • Rare Tiles
  • Legendary Tiles
  • Gates
  • Glyph Sockets

Now we are going to look at all of these tiles closely. Each of them works uniquely, so you should learn all of their effects before you start spending your Paragon Points.

What are Normal Tiles in Diablo 4 Paragon Boards?

The Normal Tiles give you a minor stat increase when you unlock them. For example, it could be a +5% bonus to your Strength or Agility. So, there is nothing special in these tiles, and you shouldn’t waste too many points on them. However, you can unlock some Normal Tiles to get to the Legendary ones, or improve the effectiveness of your Glyph.

What are Magic Tiles in Diablo 4 Paragon Boards?

Magic Tiles provide you with better bonuses, like +10% Fire Resistance. They usually surround Rare or Legendary Tiles.

What are Rare Tiles in Diablo 4 Paragon Boards?

Rare Tiles gives you some valuable bonuses. For example, they can increase the amount of Fury (Barbarian’s analog of Mana) you get for slaying enemies. Also, Rare Tiles provide you with additional bonuses if your character meets certain stat requirements. The Barbarian Tile that we mentioned grants +8% to your Maximum Fury if your character has 175 Strength and 125 Willpower.

What are Legendary Tiles in Diablo 4 Paragon Boards?

Legendary Tiles are the ones that give you the most significant bonuses. They are quite rare and provide you with new passive abilities. For example, there is a tile that increases Barbarian’s damage by 30% if you have your Fury above 50%.

What are Gates in Diablo 4 Paragon Boards?

Gates are special tiles located on each of the four sides of the board. If you unlock one of them, you will be able to connect another Paragon Board to it. This feature can be used to obtain more top-tier bonuses such as Legendary Tiles or Glyphs. You should connect to as many boards as possible, as the most valuable tiles can be found only in a single instance on each of them.

Also, you can rotate your boards in all directions. This feature will help you to choose the most effective, reward-laden angle. Use it to spend your Paragon Points effectively and get all the tiles you need before you move to another board.

What are Glyph Sockets in Diablo 4 Paragon Boards?

Glyphs are special runes that you can find in the most dangerous places, such as Nightmare Dungeons. These can be put in special sockets on Paragon Boards. Such a tile consumes your Glyph and gives you a special bonus.

For example, we've seen a Magic Glyph that increases the bonuses of surrounding tiles by 30%. Rare types of Glyphs give you additional passive perks, such as bonus damage for each Agility point you gain from surrounding tiles.

Also, Glyphs can be upgraded by completing certain dungeons. As you can see, these runes affect surrounding tiles. Upgraded Glyphs have an extended radius, which helps you to get more benefits from other tiles.

How many Paragon Boards are in Diablo 4?

We can’t say for sure how many Paragon Boards are present in Diablo 4. However, it seems that the developers will add more of them in future updates, or maybe even as DLC. So, Paragon Boards will have a significant impact on the endgame meta, and people will have long discussions about the best boards for each character.

Paragon Boards may remind you of skill trees, and they work as a new way to develop your endgame build.
