Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is finally out, and players have already begun their journey to reconnect a broken world once again. While our review is still in progress, we’ve already discovered several new features that make this sequel live up to its name.

Returning to the mix is the familiar “walking simulator” experience that divided players in the first game, along with the strange, otherworldly atmosphere that Hideo Kojima has continued to master over the years.

Walking around while lugging a truckload of packages is no easy feat, which is why one of Death Stranding 2’s best new features is a game-changer. Many players have been asking: Does Death Stranding 2 finally include a portable music player you can use while making deliveries?

Here’s everything you need to know!

The music!

For the first time in the series, Sam can listen to music on the road, no longer having to wait for Kojima’s signature musical drops during specific story beats.

Even better, you can now create your own playlist, allowing you to customize your soundtrack with your favorite songs from the game. Whether it’s listening to Gen Hoshino’s “Pop Virus” for the hundredth time or discovering new tracks like Caroline Polachek’s “On the Beach,” the choice is yours.

How to Get the Music Player in Death Stranding 2: On the Beach

To unlock the music player, players must reach Episode 3: DRAWBRIDGE and travel across the Australian continent to find a prepper known as The Musician.

After completing his delivery request, which involves disabling a Brigand signal jammer, he’ll reward you with the music player and a curated selection of tracks to get you started.

How to Use the Music Player

To use the music player, press the Start button to enter your Ring Terminal and navigate to the Music Player icon.

From there, you can browse and play any tracks you’ve collected on your journey. More songs can be unlocked as you progress through the story and meet new preppers who offer additional music.

Just keep in mind: the music player only works while you're within the Chiral Network. Also, certain story moments (like enemy encounters or BT fights) will automatically mute your music to preserve the game’s atmosphere.
