The Finals SBMM - player on a rooftop with a weapon

There is a new sheriff in town, but this sheriff is actually a free-to-play arena shooter which is gaining popularity quite quickly. Since there is a lot of discussions on its game modes, people are wondering, does the Finals have SBMM? Let's find out.

The player count of the game has skyrocketed in a few weeks, now surpassing even classics such as Call of Duty, also thanks to its crossplay.

But SBMM, or skill based matchmaking, is just a way to balance out these kinds of games where you play against other players. Having it active might make it quite difficult to get better or even to win matches. So let's find out if it's actually in The Finals.

Does The Finals have skill based matchmaking?

While the developers have not said anything about it, based on what people are seeing in the lobbies and in the matches so far, it seems that The Finals is indeed adopting a kind of SBMM.

Many players have noticed that, after winning several games in a row, they will suddenly put against players quite more skilled. This meant that matches became quite more difficult in a very short time.

But of course, this is just based on what players seem to have noticed, we don't have any kind of official confirmation on SBMM in The Finals yet.

What does SBMM mean?

This acronym means skill based matchmaking. Basically, this translates into going up against players of your same skill. For example, if you are not very good at the game, you will find yourself up against players that are also not very good. Thus, matches will feel balanced.

Consequently, if you are very skilled, you will never find players that are below your skill. This means, though, that if you are getting good at the game, you will suddenly find yourself matched with high skilled players and might get discouraged, not having a good time.
