The Hero's Shield in Dragon Quest 3 Remake is a solid piece of gear that enhances a character's defensive capabilities.
When worn, it significantly increases defense by 65 points, which is especially useful in fights against enemies who use magic.
This article explains how to obtain the Hero's Shield in Dragon Quest 3 Remake.
How to Get the Hero's Shield
To get the Hero’s Shield in Dragon Quest 3 Remake, head to the Talontear Tunnel northwest of Tantegel in the World of Darkness.
No magic works within the boundaries of the Talontear Tunnel.
Not being able to cast spells like healing, teleportation, or support abilities means you’ll need to plan ahead.
Stock up on medicinal herbs and healing items to maintain your party's strength.
Equip items that also let you cast spells, like the Staff of Sentencing, to work around magic limits for healing or attacks.
Skills like Monster Pile-On also come in handy when dealing with stronger enemies.
Located a short way northwest of Tantegel, the Talontear Tunnel is one of the early dungeons you’ll likely encounter in the World of Darkness.
The location is simple, but despite the small dungeon, the enemies and magic restrictions make it challenging.
Start in the northwest corner of the first floor and head east, taking the first path south.
From there, proceed east, south, and east again to locate the stairs to the second floor.
As you progress, you can find optional treasures like the Ice Shield in the bottom-left corner and the Snooze Stick near the central tunnel.
On the second floor, go to the bottom-right corner and follow the main route to the stairs at the top-left.
Avoid entering side rooms unless you’re after items like the Thief’s Turban or gold coins.
The stairs in the top-left corner will take you to the final floor, and your goal is to get there.
The third floor is smaller, taking you directly to a treasure room full of chests. However, you won’t immediately see the chest with the Hero's Shield.
Skip the first chests and head left, following the narrow path that leads to the correct chest at the far end.
This chest holds the sought-after Hero’s Shield.
Once you have the Hero’s Shield, you must retrace your steps through the dungeon to leave, as teleportation spells like Evac and items like Chimaera Wings won’t work in Talontear Tunnel.
The Hero’s Shield provides a significant defense upgrade and weakens the effects of fire and ice magic.
