Dragon’s Dogma 2 gives you the complete freedom to do whatever you want throughout its world. From giving gifts to NPCs to killing anyone who gives you a weird look on the street, you have very few limits in the RPG. However, if you decide to go down a dark path, you might end up in jail as a consequence.
In Dragon’s Dogma 2, jail is called “Gaol,” and you can end up in a cell if you perform any kind of illegal. This usually relates to killing an innocent person and being caught trespassing where you don’t belong. More specifically, the most likely reason you’ll end up in jail is during The Caged Magistrate mission, where you have to infiltrate the Vernworth Gaol to talk to an NPC.
If you need to know how to escape jail to continue with your mission in Dragon’s Dogma 2, keep reading the guide below.
How to escape jail in Dragon’s Dogma 2
There are a couple of ways to escape jail in Dragon’s Dogma 2. One is free and the other is quite costly, but it’s the best way to go about your situation if you end up on the wrong side of a cell.
First, let’s start with the free method. Most of the time when you end up in jail, you can turn around in your cell to find a breakable wall. This is indicated by the wall having bricks that aren’t connected all the way.
All you need to do is swing your fists at the wall a few times to break through and escape your cell through the back path. Most of the time, you’ll end up on the outside of the Gaol and have to scale a cliff or some other obstacle to return to your destination and reunite with your Pawns.
The alternative and more costly way of escaping jail is to bribe a Gaol guard. You can do this by waiting for a guard to pass your cell, holding Circle/B to hail them, and then offering them a bribe. For us, the cost of the bribe was 20,000 gold inside the Vernworth Gaol during The Caged Magistrate mission. However, that cost might differ for you depending on your situation.
If you don’t have 20,000 gold, you can either choose to escape your jail by going through the breakable wall or reloading a previous save to return to a time when you weren’t incarcerated.
For those of you who do bribe the guard, you’ll be released from your cell. The best part about this is that when you’re released, you can walk around the Gaol freely. If you’re doing The Caged Magistrate, this allows you to freely walk up to the magistrate and speak with him without having to sneak around the guards.
How to retrieve Dragon's Dogma 2 items after escaping jail
Once you have escaped from jail, your biggest worry will likely be how to get all of your inventory items back. All you have in the jail cell are some raggy clothes and nothing else in your inventory.
Fortunately, as soon as you step foot outside of the Gaol, all of your items will be instantly given back to you on the spot. This includes all of your weapons, gear, food, healing potions, and quest items. You’ll have to re-equip your weapons and gear, but other than that, you’re good to continue with your adventure in Dragon’s Dogma 2.
