How to defend in EA Sports FC 24
As with most things in EA Sports FC 24, practising defensive techniques is the best way to build some consistency. Once you've managed to master the basics, keeping the ball away from the feet of nearby forwards becomes much easier.
Here are some useful tips and tricks that are worth utilising to your advantage.
Jockeying
The jockeying action, performed by using the left trigger on your controller, allows the player you're controlling to keep the eyes of the player in possession facing in front of them. This allows you to move them into a tricky position, so you can win the ball and slow down their progress towards your penalty area.
Even if you manage to slow them and don't win the ball back, it can be enough to stop the ball from heading into the danger area.
The hard tackle
Although performing a hard tackle increases the risk of committing a foul, it's an excellent tool to use when timed correctly. For a hard standing tackle, simply hold down B/Circle and for a hard sliding tackle, hold down X/Square.
Timing hard tackles in EA Sports FC 24 may take some time to master, but it's definitely worth using when looking at how to defend effectively.
Player switching
In some cases, taking a chance with a last-ditch tackle isn't the best option. Switching defenders to move them into the path of the ball can be just as effective. Simply move a nearby defender in front of the striker and the ball will cannon off them out of play, or close a space the attacker otherwise would've run into.
Defensive tactics
Last and by no means least is using defensive team tactics you can use by holding Down on the D-Pad. Ranging from the offside trap to a team press, there are plenty of choices when it comes to regaining the ball and stopping the other team from moving any further into your half.
