A few years back, Final Fantasy 15 served to add DLC and unlockable costumes for Noctis as the gang to change into. This was, for the most part, a first for the franchise, running collaborations with Ubisoft's Assassin Creed series and even Nissin's Cup Noodle product to provide players with more clothing options for the party - likely as a means to recoup some of the gargantuan cost of the game and its associated media. But Final Fantasy 16 isn't following in its footsteps.

Can you chance Clive's appearance in Final Fantasy 16?

Despite how far into the JRPG trope of additional costumes Final Fantasy 15 leaned into, Final Fantasy 16 isn't going down the same route. At least not at launch. In the 1.0 version shipping to retailers and digital distribution platforms, there is no way to change how Clive looks in Final Fantasy 16. Not a full wardrobe change, at least.

Equipped gear won't change how Clive appears in the overworld. You won't see him actually don the armour you might come across. Swords, on the other hand, are modelled, meaning you can swap out his signature Invictus blade for another if you so desire.

But that's not to say Clive looks the same throughout the game. Though you won't be able to directly control how he appears, bigger story events will change the once-young prince of the Rosfield lineage - who was blocked from inheriting the throne, mind - into the brazen and battle-hardened soldier seen in most of the marketing material.

Not only will time shape his features, but the dramatic, bloody, and tragic events that follow him through Valisthea will as well, with brandings appearing over the course of the game.

It's a little disappointing to hear that you won't get to see Clive in a heavy suit of armour for a prolonged period of time, but it makes sense when you consider how a game's protagonist needs to be an immediately recongnizable mascot for years to come. Maybe once the launch hype has calmed down, Square Enix might add new costumes for him to don as part of the New Game+ line-up.
