We're now over half way through the current season of Fortnite and haven't been treated to a new update for a few weeks. The next one in the pipeline is the Fortnite 21.40 update, which should be pretty exciting since we've been waiting so long for it.
Below, we'll go over what the expected release date of the update is, how long the game will be down for, and what will be coming as part of the update.

Dragon Ball crossover coming with 21.40
Following teases and rumours that have been flying around for months, the Dragon Ball X Fortnite crossover has now been confirmed and it will be beginning the same week as 21.40's release.
We don't know what to expect from the event, beyond some skins and challenges, but we know it will start on August 16.
The announcement tweet has also become Fortnite's most liked tweet ever.
Fortnite 21.40 release date
The Fortnite 21.40 release date has been confirmed by leakers, with it going live on staging servers now.
After the long break, we expect Fortnite 21.40 to release on Tuesday, August 16.
As the ever reliable @ShiinaBR tweeted last week, "The next update will most likely be released on August 16, 11 days from now. It seems *very* unlikely that we'll already get an update next week."
Maintenance
Once the date of Fortnite 21.40 does roll around, the game will be taken offline for a short period of maintenance.
The servers should be taken offline at 3am ET/8am BST on the morning of the update's release and the downtime should last for a couple of hours.
You'll be able to download the update at around 4am ET/9am BST, but the servers won't come back until a little while after that.
As always, there's a chance it goes on for longer if any issues crop up on Epic's end, but we'll keep you up to date if that's the case.
Patch notes
As for what we can actually expect from Fortnite 21.40, it's hard to say now. Since Epic has been quiet for a few weeks, presumably having a summer holiday, the leakers don't know a huge amount about what's coming as part of the next update.
However, ahead of the update dropping, we're sure the usual leakers will get more info on what's being added.
