In four-player co-op games like Gangs of Sherwood, the characters you control are just as important as gameplay. We all remember the crews of the Left 4 Dead games, and certainly hope that the Merry Men can compare. In this guide, we'll reveal all playable characters in Gangs of Sherwood.
Solo players will likely find themselves switching characters often, replaying missions to see how each character can approach it. Co-op players should find a favourite and stick to them, however - it'll take a lot of redistributed money to to keep all four Merry Men upgraded, after all.
Before we start explaining the characters, you should check out our guide to the Gangs of Sherwood pre-order bonuses. We also wrote about the game's minimum and recommended PC specs.
All playable characters in Gangs of Sherwood
There are four playable characters in Gangs of Sherwood, each with a unique set of abilities. Their playstyles are completely different, but all perform better when complimenting their teammates' moves.
Each character can also equip and combine 'shards' that can transform their gameplay in exciting ways. In exchange for hard-fought gold, they make abilities more effective.
Robin of Locksley
It would be blasphemy to have a Robin Hood game not feature the man himself. Robin is the gang's archer, shooting incredibly quickly and using a variety of special arrows to ruin enemies' days. We've listed many of his main appeals below.
- Headshots that can kill some enemies outright
- Knocking enemies into the air for air-juggling
- Arrows that can drill through shields
- Special shots that can hit several enemies at once
- Star arrows that deal heavy damage
Little John
Little John's speciality is melee, and his muscles certainly aren't little. Button mashing is discouraged, with precisely timed punches building an overheat meter that provides plenty of useful effects. The list below reveals John's specialties.
- Throwing enemies onto traps
- Ranged laser beam attack
- Juggling enemies by attacking them in the air
- High-damage overheat attacks
- Devastating grab attacks
Friar Tuck
No group is complete without a tank or healer, and Friar Tuck fills both roles. His massive mace makes attacks slow, but they have large areas of effect with decent damage. Tuck's specialties are listed below.
- Charging attacks to boost their damage
- Creating shockwaves and fire pillars
- Making enemies levitate for air-juggling
- Healing allies
- Blocking enemy attacks with a shield
Maid Marian
As the gang's assassin, Maid Marian is primed to kill her father - the Sheriff of Nottingham. She has options for close and long range attacks, making her a versatile fighter. Her most exciting abilities are listed below.
- Throwable daggers for damage at range
- Retractable chain sword for sweeping melee attacks
- Magnetic daggers that stack on enemies until damage is unleashed
- Thrust attacks to get around the battlefield quickly
