August 30, 2023: The Genshin Impact 4.0 update is out now, so check out all the key details!

Genshin Impact is set to introduce yet another region as part of its major annual update. We will be heading to Fontaine, a location that draws parallels to France during the French Revolution area. Our Genshin Impact 4.0 hub will go over upcoming banners, live stream date, release date, and other information.

Fontaine is the fifth region in Genshin Impact and going by Hoyoverse’s recent teasers, we will get to know more about the Harbinger’s intentions and Celestia. We might also find out more about Natlan, as it is the next region after Fontaine.

Before we dig deeper into what Genshin Impact 4.0 has to offer to players, consider checking out our Klee build in case you are pulling her this patch. We also prepared a Collei build in case you want to make a Dendro team for exploration in Fontaine.

Genshin Impact 4.0 - Release date

Genshin Impact 4.0 released on August 16, 2023. Until then, we were in patch 3.8 and the release date of 4.0 has now been confirmed. There was no patch 3.9 as we will directly skip to 4.0.

Genshin Impact 4.0 - Livestream date

The Genshin Impact 4.0 livestream took place on August 4. It unveiled the new Fontaine region, while also providing some handy Twitch drops for people who tuned in.

Genshin Impact 4.0 - New region: Fontaine

Fontaine has been teased for years, and we started meeting NPCs from the region regularly since the release of patch 2.0 in 2021. Fontaine represents the Hydro element.

Genshin Impact 4.0 new mechanics

When you look at characters from Fontaine, you will notice that they either align with Ousia or Pneuma. Ousia and Pneuma are factions that have been leaked multiple times in the past. These factions will introduce new mechanics in patch 4.0, making attacks from either alignment add different VFX to character weapons.

Enemies will also have Ousia/Pneuma alignments. If you attack Ousia with Pneuma or conversely attack Pneuma with Ousia, enemies will be paralysed. It's a cool new mechanic that could however lead to a frustrating gameplay experience if we are forced to use either in the Spiral Abyss, leading to team building restrictions.

Genshin Impact Upcoming Characters

Genshin Impact 4.0 upcoming characters

Three characters have been confirmed so far including the magician duo Lyney and Lynette who are of five-star and four-star rarities respectively. Freminet will also make an appearance in the second half of the banner.

Lyney

Lyney is a celebrated magician of the Court of Fontaine. With the possible exception of the trials held at the Opera Epiclese, Lyney, and Lynette's magic show is without a doubt the best live performance in the Court of Fontaine. He is a Pyro character who seems to be a support for Mono Pyro teams.

Lynette

Lynette is Lyney’s elder sister and she is an Anemo character and will be present in Teyvat Chapter Storyline Preview Act IV in Fontaine. In direct contrast to her older brother, who refers to himself as "the greatest magician in all Teyvat," Lynette might possibly be the lowest-profile Magician's Assistant in the land. She seeks neither flowers nor applause, avoids interviews, and generally tries to avoid notice.

Freminet

Freminet is an upcoming Cryo character who recently appeared in the Overture Teaser: The Final Feast video showcasing upcoming Fontaine characters. As the younger brother of Fontaine's famous magical duo Lyney and Lynette, Freminet prefers to stay out of the limelight. Other people's gazes, responses, and comments make him uncomfortable which makes him want to slip away and spend time with the Romaritime Flower.

Other characters who might make an appearance in Fontaine’s quests include:

  • Wriothesley: Five-star Cryo Polearm character
  • Neuvillette: Five-star Hydro Catalyst character
  • Charlotte: Four-star Cryo Catalyst character
  • Furina: Five-star Hydro Sword character
  • Waghild: Five-star Hydro character
  • M: Four-star unknown character
  • Sertice: Four-star Sword character
  • Clorinde: Five-star unknown character
  • Navia: Five-star Geo character
  • Dahlia: Four-star Hydro Catalyst character
  • Lion Dance: Four-star unknown character
  • Chiori: Five-star unknown character
  • Mummy Girl: Four-star Hydro Bow character
  • Arlecchino: Five-star Pyro Sword character
  • Skirk: Unknown rarity Sword character

These characters will not be playable in 4.0 but we can expect them to appear in future patches as we progress through Fontaine’s storyline in 4.1 and beyond. In addition to the new characters Traveler (Aether/Lumine) will also unlock the Hyro Vision and we will get to use our new powers for exploration and puzzle-solving.

Genshin Impact 4.0 Events

Loading...

There are five events that will be available in the upcoming patch:

  • Studies in Light and Shadow: The Enchanting Underwater World
  • Mechanical Marionette Melee
  • Relic Records: Creations of the Hydro Nation
  • Verdict of Blades
  • The Forge Realm’s Temper: Game of Wits

Just like every other patch, expect there to be a mix of puzzle-solving events and combat-based events. The flagship event is Mechanical Marionette Melee which will give players 900 Primogems, event currency to buy resources and other items, 810,000 Mora, 57 Hero’s Wit, and other rewards.

We are also close to the 4th Anniversary of Genshin Impact so we can expect new rewards. Last year, we received 20 summons and some in-game items and this year should be no different. Hoyoverse has not confirmed any rewards just yet so temper your expectations before getting too excited based on speculations.

That is all you need to know about the content coming to Genshin Impact 4.0. For more content, check out our Kirara build guide. We also have a guide for Lyney speculating his origins and how he will be connected to Fontaine’s story.
