Proving that there's no chance of it slowing down any time soon, the recently speculated Genshin Impact Layla release date has been making the rounds across the game's various social media communities. Though there's not a massive amount to say about her just yet, we're piecing this page together now in time for the next info drop.
Down below, we'll go over and speculate what we know about the Genshin Impact Layla release date, the lore surrounding the new character, the banner she'll likely be a part of, and what weapon and element combo she uses.

How do I get Layla in Genshin Impact?
Layla is currently available as a boosted-rate 4-Star on Childe and Yae Miko's rerun banners, but will be added to the standard pool for all banners in the next update.
Genshin Impact Layla lore - Who is Layla in Genshin Impact?
Sleepy Layla popped up in the Fabulous Fungus Frenzy event debuting in Version 3.2, alongside Yae Miko and some new NPCs. She is a scholar of the Rtawahist, studying Theoretical Astrology. This relates to her design and kit that features stars, and her sleeping in her deployable shield.
Genshin Impact Layla element- what element is Layla?
Layla uses the Cryo element, and has a sword. Because of her element and weapon combo, she's competing with Qiqi, Kaeya, and Ayaka. Though given she's a four-star user, she's the first Cryo Sword user of that rarity to be added since Kaeya in the original release.
Genshin Impact Layla gameplay - attacks, skills, and abilities
As an on-field character, Layla is best for support and reactions; her elemental burst provides a Cryo AoE, much like Ganyu's, and her elemental skill is a Cryo shield. Other than that, she can do normal damage with her sword.
What weapon does Layla use?
Layla uses a sword when she attacks in Genshin Impact. Her stature makes the weapons seem a little heavier than they otherwise would on a character like Bennett or Jean, however, so it's easy to see why some would think she's using a claymore with a unique animation.
Layla's combat moves give her a shield orb called the Curtain of Slumber, which will provide damage should any enemies hit it. Her burst move is an AoE Cryo attack, a bit like Ganyu's. It comes from a hanging mobile above her.
Best weapons and Artifacts for Layla
We know that Layla wields a sword, so we can speculate as to which might be a good choice for her, and which Artifacts could help her skills.
Weapon | Rarity | Bonus stat | Skill | How to obtain |
---|---|---|---|---|
Key of Khaj-Nisut | 5-Star | HP% +14.4% | HP increased by 20%. When an Elemental Skill hits opponents, you gain the Grand Hymn effect for 20s. This effect increases the equipping character's Elemental Mastery by 0.12% of their Max HP. This effect can trigger once every 0.3s. Max 3 stacks. When this effect gains 3 stacks, or when the third stack's duration is refreshed, the Elemental Mastery of all nearby party members will be increased by 0.2% of the equipping character's max HP for 20s. | Weapon banner |
Mistsplitter Reforged | 5-Star | CRIT DMG 44.1% | Gain a 12% Elemental DMG Bonus for every element and receive the might of Mistsplitter's Seal. At stack levels 1/2/3, Mistsplitter's Seal provides a 8/16/28% Elemental DMG Bonus for the character's Elemental Type. The character will obtain 1 stack of Mistsplitter's Seal in each of the following scenarios: Normal Attack deals Elemental DMG (stack lasts 5s), casting Elemental Burst (stack lasts 10s): Energy is less than 100% (stack disappears when Energy is full). Each stack's duration is calculated independently | Wishes |
Sacrificial Sword | 4-Star | Energy Recharge 61.3% | After damaging an opponent with an Elemental Skill, the skill has a 40% chance to end its own CD. Can only occur once every 30s. | Wishes |
Favonius Sword | 4-Star | Energy Recharge 61.3% | CRIT Hits have a 60% chance to generate a small amount of Elemental Particles, which will regenerate 6 Energy for the character. Can only occur once every 12s. | Wishes |
In terms of Artifact sets, there are some obvious options given her Cryo vision, but Layla's damage scales off her HP, so it is a good idea to work towards that when picking Artifacts:
Set | 2-piece bonus | 4-piece bonus |
---|---|---|
Tenacity of the Millelith | HP +20% | When an Elemental Skill hits an opponent, the ATK of all nearby party members is increased by 20% and their Shield Strength is increased by 30% for 3s. This effect can be triggered once every 0.5s. This effect can still be triggered even when the character who is using this artifact set is not on the field |
Blizzard Strayer | Cryo DMG Bonus +15% | When a character attacks an opponent affected by Cryo, their CRIT Rate is increased by 20%. If the opponent is Frozen, CRIT Rate is increased by an additional 20% |
Emblem of Severed Fate | Energy Recharge +20% | Increases Elemental Burst DMG by 25% of Energy Recharge. A maximum of 75% bonus DMG can be obtained in this way |

What are Layla's ascension materials, and talent materials?
New leaks have sprouted that allegedly list what materials we'll need to ascend Layla, and level up her talents. These include an unnamed boss drop for now, which will likely be added in the next update when Layla releases.
To ascend her, here's what we'll need:
Material | How to obtain |
---|---|
Perpetual Caliber | Drops from the Aeonblight Drake |
Nilotpala Lotus | Found in streams and ponds in the Avidya forest |
Divining Scroll, Sealed Scroll, Forbidden Curse Scrolls | Drops from Samachurls |
Shivada Jade Sliver, Fragment, Chunk, and Gemstone | Drops from bosses like Cryo Hypostasis, Cryo Regisvine, Wolf of the North, Azhdaha, and Geovishaps |
Layla's talent upgrades will also need the Scrolls, along with the Ingenuity family of talent materials.
Genshin Impact Layla banner speculation
This would line up with the projected release date of Genshin Impact 3.2. Though she could land that very day, if she ends up being in the banner for the second half of the patch, the Genshin Impact Layla release date could land somewhere in the middle of November instead.
