god of war ragnarok, get to the jungle

Trying to get to the Jungle in God of War Ragnarok? We’ve got a handy guide to get you to this untamed region of Vanaheim. The Jungle has a lot of collectibles up for grabs, including chests, Dragon Hunts, Lore markers, and more.

While you might not be able to clean the place out until you’ve unlocked all of your traversal abilities, it’s still worth a visit before then. As always, exploration in God of War Ragnarok is a great way to gear up and improve your chances against the many foes you’ll face during your journey through the nine realms.

In this guide, we’ll show you how to get to the Jungle region so you can loot the deep wilderness of Vanaheim, as well as which favours you need to complete to travel there.

How to get to the Jungle in God of War Ragnarok

You’ll need to do a couple of things before getting to the Jungle. Firstly, you need to complete the main quest ‘Creatures of Prophecy’. If you want to see how close you are, you can check out our mission list.

Secondly, you’ll need to do the favour ‘The Scent of Survival’ to reach a region in Vanaheim called the Crater. You should automatically unlock this quest once you’ve completed ‘Creatures of Prophecy’.

Unfortunately, it’s not a straight shot to the Jungle from here: you’ll need it to be night-time first. From the entrance to the Crater, follow these simple steps:

  1. Turn left and jump down the ledge with a torch beside it, entering the ravine.
  2. Keep bearing left until you can use the Chaos Blades to swing across the ravine.
  3. Once you’ve crossed the ravine, you should see a structure atop a small hill. This is a Celestial Altar, which you’ll need to use to change the time of day to night.
  4. To reach the Altar, head right until you see a cave on your left and enter it.
  5. Once there, exit the cave by swinging to the left.

From here, you should be able to climb up to the Celestial Altar and plunge Vanaheim into darkness. Once it’s night, several vines should recede and unlock access to the Jungle. The entrance is on the south side of the Plains, marked by two small statues curled over flames.

From there it’s a simple case of baring right, clambering across a wall, and breaking through some wooden planks. Climb through the entrance you’ve just made and you’ll discover the Jungle.

How to complete ‘The Scent of Survival’ and reach the Crater

If you haven’t reached the Crater yet, here’s how to get to it: Once you’ve finished the ‘Creatures of Prophecy’ mission, the wolf Helka should spot something and rush off. Give chase to the beach, interact with the tracks there, hop in the boat, and begin rowing to your right.

Mimir should point out some tracks on an opposing beach. From there it’s as simple as following Helka’s path up to a Celestial Altar and changing the time of day to unlock the way forward.

Use the Chaos Blades to scale a previously inaccessible ledge, proceed through a tunnel of roots, and find your canine companion waiting for you. The favour will complete and unlock a flying boat to take you to the Crater.
