How do I prepare for the God of War Ragnarok Gryla boss?
With Gryla, you will be helped out far more by technique than your skills or upgrades. This being said, there are some things you can do to make it a little easier. If you happen to have bought a revive as Kratos, you can use this as Atreus. Unfortunately, you can't buy it when with Angrboda.
As far as skills are concerned, you should try and invest in those that slow down time. For this reason, you should spend some XP on Deceptive Eagle Eye and Soaring Eagle Eye.
How do I defeat Gryla in God of War Ragnarok?
Just before the boss fight starts, you have to free the wolf that Gryla has captured. This will alarm her and start the fight. She will chase Atreus under a nearby chair, where you have to turn around and go through a crack in the wall. Follow Angrboda until you end up in the main fight. Go across to the cauldron and attack it to do damage.
From here, you are free to actually take on the fight. Do not hit Gryla in this fight. Instead, you should continue to apply pressure to the cauldron she is holding. Make Angrboda hit her cauldron with arrows until she is stunned, where you can move up close and do damage.

After this, Gryla will start using an AOE attack that hits the entire floor. When the floor flashes red, use Atreus' bow to climb up onto the nearby shelves. You can then continue to apply pressure through shots and make Angrboda hit candles when Gryla is nearby. Rinse and repeat this until Gryla goes down.
What are the rewards for defeating the God of War Ragnarok Gryla boss?
Unfortunately, defeating Gryla won't net you any specific rewards other than XP. It seems likely this is done on purpose, given the anger between her and Angrboda. This will let you move on with the rest of the story.
