You'll want to know how to get smouldering embers in God of War Ragnarok as they are used to upgrade some of the most powerful items in the game, but getting your hands on them won’t be easy. Fortunately, we’re here to point you in the right direction.
This rare material can’t just be plucked off one of the many unlucky draugr to cross your path. You’ll need to journey to Muspelheim, the ash-covered land of the fire giants. While the challenges ahead can be daunting, the good news is you’ll also get a whole bunch of other rewards including divine ashes, hacksilver, and armour pieces.
In this God of War Ragnarok guide, we’ll go over how to get your hands on smouldering embers to help you endure some of the game’s most hardcore challenges and dethrone Odin once and for all.
Where to find Smouldering Embers in God of War Ragnarok
To get smouldering embers in God of War Ragnarok, you’ll need to travel to the blazing realm of Muspelheim. Unfortunately, you won’t be getting your hands on these embers right away. While the initial set of trials will reward you with divine ashes, hacksilver, and armour pieces, smouldering embers are only available from the ‘Final Challenges’.
To get smouldering embers, you’ll need to work your way through the following trials:
- Challenge One: Weapon Mastery, and Challenge Two: Flawless, found at the sword with an F-shaped rune emblazoned upon it.
- Challenge Three: Ring Out, and Challenge Four: Feed the Rift, found at the sword with an N-shaped rune.
- Challenge Five: Population Control, and Challenge Six: King of the Hill, found at the sword with an R-shaped rune.
Once you’ve opened the final Norn chest you should get a new favour, informing you that these harder trials have been unlocked. Return to the first sword with the F rune to start your journey through a gauntlet of jaw-clenching, controller-throwing brawls.
These challenges will reward you with smouldering embers, blazing embers, glowing embers, hacksilver, enchantments, and more. Remember if you’re finding them too hard, you can always turn down the difficulty or return later!
How do I get to Muspelheim?
To reach Muspelheim, you’ll need both halves of the Muspelheim seed: both of which can be found in Svartalfheim. Kratos will need access to the Draupnir Spear to reach the second half, which can be unlocked by battling your way through the main story.
Mimir will direct you to the first half via a favour while in Svartalfheim, tasking Kratos with destroying several mining rigs. The first half can be found at Modvitnir’s rig in a legendary chest. The second half can be found during the ‘Spirit of Rebellion’ favour by taking a left at the large dwarf statue, leading you to a debris-covered chest guarded by ogres with the second half inside.
