How do I prepare for the God of War Ragnarok Thor boss?
As far as your equipment is concerned, you shouldn't be doing too much to prep for this fight. It happens very early on, so what you should be focusing on is your skill trees and techniques.
Moving over to the skill tree, you should focus on quick movement skills, rather than those slow buildups. Thor is aggressive and fast, constantly putting pressure on you. You should be moving just as much as you are swinging.
The first skill you should put some of your XP into is Whirling Storm. This allows you to dodge and swing forward simultaneously. It's very quick, and a great way of getting some nice hits in every time you move. Make sure you use it a lot to try and upgrade it. This should give you the ability to upgrade it for extra damage or stun effects.
After this, work on grabbing the Evasive Storm skill. With it, you can dodge away and throw your axe at the same time, punishing Thor every time he gets too close. It does have a limited range, but can be used effectively to whack him every time you dodge away.
How do I defeat Thor in God of War Ragnarok?
The God of War Ragnarok Thor fight starts almost immediately after meeting him. You are flung into the sky and smashed into an arena, losing your axe. This arena is big and filled with pillars. Get in between the pillars to make some distance and only swing it when he over-commits to a big attack. When a yellow circle appears around Thor, it's a sign he is preparing for a heavy strike. Move around him and get a couple of hits in. Rinse and repeat this until you get your axe back.

Once you have the axe, you can start committing to longer-range encounters, throwing the axe and dodging his swings. This will then send you into a new arena. Thor will start using ranged attacks more here. Pick up the pillars and hit him with them. You can get his health down and prep for a big attack.
After this, there is one more phase of the boss. He will use plenty of AOE attacks and thunder. Luckily, there are easy to predict. Wait for him to start calling lighting and dodge in and out of them until you can start swinging again. Get his health down and he will leave, paying your blood debt.
What are the rewards for defeating the God of War Ragnarok Thor boss?
The rewards for beating Thor are more based on the game's story than anything else. It allows you access to the rest of the game and the next major world to explore. You will get some XP and drops from around the area, but nothing major.
