Gamers have waited a long time for the GTA 6 trailer, and now that it's finally here, we have more questions than answers. This guide aims to answer an important one - where does GTA 6 take place?
The Grand Theft Auto series is no stranger to exploring new locations. To name just three, players have caused mayhem in Liberty City, San Andreas, and even London across the mainline titles and lesser-known spinoffs.
For more GTA 6 while we've all got plenty of time to wait, find out why fans aren't interested in the male protagonist or check out everything we learned from the first trailer.
Where is Grand Theft Auto 6 set?
According to the Rockstar newswire, GTA 6 takes place in 'the state of Leonida, home to the neon-soaked streets of Vice City and beyond.'
The Vice City setting was previously just a theory, but the huge 'VICE' sign seen 40 seconds into the trailer removes all doubt. The trailer also treats viewers to a wide variety of locations, ranging from a densely populated beach to swamplands and, of course, a city full of skyscrapers.
Around the trailer's 35-second mark, a road is seen connecting several small islands to one another, strongly resembling the Florida Keys. The sheer number of land, sea, and air vehicles shown make it a safe bet that the GTA 6 map is going to be a very large one.
The most direct inspiration is clearly the state of Florida, making the references to 'Leonida Man' quite on-the-nose. It'll certainly be interesting to see if any of the old protagonists make their way to Vice City, as the actor behind GTA V protagonist Michael's actor recently hinted. We can only hope they don't meet the business end of an alligator's jaws.
That's all we can share about the setting of GTA 6. Before you go, find out if the game is a PS5 exclusive and see how the developers at Rockstar felt about the trailer being leaked early.
