How to charge the Ancient Magic Meter in Hogwarts Legacy
You can build up Ancient Magic by taking damage or landing successful attacks in a combo. All 10+ hit combos generate Ancient Magic powerups. Collecting these powerups will quickly fill up your Ancient Magic Meter, and also recover a small amount of health.
Players need to fill their Ancient Magic Meter by completing the combos, and by collecting crystal-like objects that appear during combat. You need to fill up at least one segment of the bar to unleash a powerful Ancient spell. After you charge up an Ancient Spell, you need to manually trigger it during combat or puzzles.
What is Ancient Magic in Hogwarts Legacy?
According to the official lore, Ancient Magic is a type of magic that can be triggered by elements of human nature. Kindness and love can also be strong emotions that harness Ancient Magic, and it is exactly what Lily and James Potter used to save Harry’s life in the books.
In the Harry Potter universe, it is not just human morality and emotions that harness Ancient Magic. Dragons are able to store Ancient Magic within their hard scales, and the creatures can cause mass destruction just by opening their mouths.

While many might think that Hogwarts Legacy introduced Ancient Magic, it did not. Ancient Magic was referenced in the books by Dumbledore, but we did not see widespread use of it. In Hogwarts Legacy, players can actively use the mysterious and ancient spells anytime they want, but they need to build up combos.
In Hogwarts Legacy, Ancient Magic plays an important role outside of combat as well. The game allows you to touch liquid mirrors and transform them into walls, or even turn living creatures into rocks. There are a number of similar unlockable spells that players will discover during their playthrough.
How to unlock Ancient Magic in Hogwarts Legacy
Ancient Magic is locked behind main story quests, and you get access to the powerful spells as you complete the introductory quests and progress the story. You will get an in-game tutorial on how to use Ancient Magic and unlock several Ancient Magic spells during your playthrough.
Some of the Ancient Spells are more powerful than Avada Kedavra, which is already regarded as one of the deadliest spells in the Harry Potter universe, so keep an eye out for all of the unlockable spells during your playthrough.
