If you haven't figured it out already, those monkey statues scattered around the open world are actually called Demiguise Statues. They're a magical creature you'll see standing in for the number zero on door puzzles, but their statues serve a different purpose altogether.

| Divination Classroom (Bell Tower) | Climb the staircase and the ladder to the Divination Classroom. You'll spot the Demiguise on the desk. |
| Level 1 lock house (South Hogsmead) | Use the South Hogsmead floo flame and you should see this small level 1 locked house ahead on your right. You'll find a Demiguise statue up the stair. |

Once you complete the first step of Gladwin Moon's quest, he'll want you to track down nine more to upgrade the spell further. Follow the current list to find nine more statues, allowing you to quickly unlock the level 2 and level 3 Alohomora upgrades.
What are the monkey statues for in Hogwarts Legacy?
Monkey Statues, officially known as Demiguise Statues for those well-versed in Wizarding World lore, are simple collectable objects in Hogwarts Legacy.
Unlike most other statues in the game, which reveal Field Guide pages upon activation, Demiguise Statues won't really serve a purpose until you get The Man Behind the Moons quest from Gladwin Moon.
They're used to acquire the unlocking spell, granting you access to the myriad locked doors in the game. The more you collect, the higher level doors you can unlock.
How to activate and collect Demiguise Statues in Hogwarts Legacy
Unlike many other types of statue in Hogwarts Legacy, there's no spell you can zap a Demiguise Statue with to make it move, change, explode, or turn into a Field Guide page. Magic isn't the answer here.
Instead, all you need to do is wait until nighttime - check out our guide on how to change the time of day if you're not sure how. That little orb the statue cradles isn't a thing to blast with Glacio - it's a Demiguise Moon.
At night time, the statue will allow you to take the moon it's holding. Take enough of these to Gladwin Moon to upgrade the spell he teaches.
