Navigating the world of Assassin's Creed Shadows without a horse is like charging into battle without a weapon—sure, you can do it, but it's not the best idea.

There’s a lot to explore on foot on the vast map, though you'll mostly spend your time on long, open roads.

You can summon your horse anytime, anywhere in the game, though if you don't know the controls, you might accidentally whistle at enemies instead.

So, before you head deeper into feudal Japan, here's everything you need to know about how to call your horse in AC Shadows properly.

How To Call Your Horse in Assassin's Creed Shadows

Getting your horse to come to you in Assassin's Creed Shadows is simple once you know the right trick, but the game doesn't exactly spell it out.

You can call your mount almost anywhere on the map, but pressing the button isn't enough.

To call your horse, you have to hold the summon button, not just tap it. On PC, you'll need to hold the X key, while console players should press down on the D-pad.

You can tap those keys to trigger a regular whistle, but it's meant for distracting or luring enemies, not for summoning your mount. So if your horse isn't showing up, it's likely because you're pressing instead of holding.

Once you get the hang of it, your character (Naoe or Yasuke) will hop on the horse as soon as it shows up. After that, you can ride off with a few simple commands.

To gallop, hold Shift on PC, press L3 on PlayStation, or press the Left Stick on Xbox. Alternatively, dismounting is done by holding C on PC, Circle on PlayStation, or B on Xbox.

The controls make covering long distances, dodging enemies, and slipping away for stealth simple.
