The first secret boss in Black Myth: Wukong, the fight with Elder Jinchi, takes place after you perform a ritual. And while this optional boss may seem similar to the Wandering Wight, it still tests your strategic thinking and combat skills to the extreme.
In today's guide, we've included some critical strategies for facing and defeating this challenging boss. Read on to learn more.
Unlocking the Battle
Unlike other bosses you’ve previously faced, the Elder Jinchi cannot be found unless you perform a hidden ritual in Chapter 1. Here, players must ring three ancient bells scattered throughout the chapter.
- First Bell: After defeating Guangzhi in the Forest of Wolves.
- Second Bell: After beating Guangmao in the Bamboo Groove Area.
- Third Bell: After defeating the Whiteclad Noble near the Marsh of The White Mist Keeper's Shine, take a hidden path to ring this last bell.
After ringing all three bells, the player will be teleported to Elder Jinchi in his Ancient Guanyin Temple.
Preparation for Battle
Upon entering the Ancient Guanyin Temple, stop at the Keeper’s Shrine to equip the Serpentscale Armor and Twin Serpent Staff. These are crucial resources as they help increase your defensive and offensive capabilities against Elder Jinchi.
How to Beat Elder Jinchi in Black Myth: Wukong?
Elder Jinchi’s combat style includes slow yet powerful attacks. Here are key moves to watch out for:
- Palm Force: This is a long-range attack consisting of a unique display of gesture animations—this is also its indicator. Players can counter back with a strong impact by timing the dodge with the attack perfectly.
- Hand Sweeps and Head Smash: Albeit slightly less dangerous than Elder Jinchi's other moves, it still requires a quick side-to-side motion to avoid damage.
- Foot Stomp: A foot stomp is exactly what the name suggests. The radius typically moves in a straight line towards you. Dodge to the side to counter.
- Exploding Pilgrims: Jinchi commands the pilgrims within the temple to charge and explode. Dispatch them swiftly to prevent damage.
- Ground Burst: This area-of-effect attack involves multiple ground explosions. It is usually safer to sprint away rather than dodge in the gaps. Furthermore, sprinting takes less stamina than a dodge.
Once the boss’s health bar depletes below 50%, he will become more aggressive and resort to complex attacks to throw you off guard. For instance, he starts to float around (as his new movement) and calls upon minions to heal him. Taking them out on a priority basis is crucial for obvious reasons.
Additional Tips For Battle
- Watch out for your environment as the fights occur in the limited temple arena.
- Keep Jinchi busy around other areas of the environment so you can tackle some Pilgrims and avoid his attacks.
- Managing your stamina and health is very important. Monitor both to ensure you can dodge effectively and survive long fight phases.
