The father-son duo will be the first double-boss fight in Black Myth: Wukong. While the idea of having to fight two bosses simultaneously can be daunting, there are multiple advantages you have over them.
You’ll find the father-son duo as you start Chapter 2 of Black Myth: Wukong after crossing the Village Entrance Shrine in the Sandgate Village Area.

+ 2While encountering your first-ever double-boss fight in Black Myth: Wukong seems frightening from the outset, it isn’t. Especially when you find the information the game doesn’t provide you with.
Talking about the battle, there is a gearset you can use to defeat both the miniboss duo with ease.
For starters, you should equip your character with the Ebongold Armor since it is the strongest in your inventory at this stage. The armor offers burn resistance—not entirely full-body burn-proof—but to some parts, like the armguard.
The second piece of equipment that will be useful is the Wandering Wight’s summon.
Key Points to Know Before Engaging in the Fight
There are two ways to approach this fight. You can either focus on the King initially or his son.
Choosing to go with the former, attacking (and eventually killing) the King, will enrage the Rat Prince. His abilities will get a major buff, and his attacks will immediately become more deadly in speed and damage.
However, defeating the Rat Prince in his enraged condition will help you gain his Spirit, which cannot be done if he’s in his normal state. So, technically, it is a win-win situation.
While the father-son duo can be intimidating—mainly because of the Rat Prince’s enraged state discussed above, there are two reasons you can easily win the fight if you focus on the Prince rather than the King.
First, focusing only on the Rat Prince will immediately end the fight and begin the victory cutscene (as opposed to killing the King first). Secondly, the Rat Prince does not have a large attack pool or a long-lasting health bar.
If you choose this method, you’ll find that the King himself is harmless—the most he’ll do is get on top of one of the five pillars in the arena and throw stones at you. Your focus here should be the Rat Prince, the King’s son.
The Rat Prince’s Most Common Offensive Moves
The Rat Prince will come at you with his mace, which is fairly heavy, making the Son’s attacks slow. He does not have a great range of attacks—this is why you have an advantage.
It’s best to march into battle completely prepared. Here’s a list of attacks the Rat Prince performs:
- Mace Push: Here, the Son will lower his mace and get into a sprinting stance. He’ll forcefully thrust his mace at you, followed by a two-hit combo. To counter this, simply dodge to the left or right-hand side. To counter the two-hit combo, dodge backward.
- Mace Sweep: After performing the two-hit combo, the Prince pauses for a second and instantly swings his mace at you. Here, the counter can be performed two ways: maintaining a distance from the enemy or dodging backward.
- Ground Smash: The Prince smashes his mace into the ground twice. Countering it is pretty straightforward. However, you should be ready for the Mace Sweep that follows.
While the Prince performs other attacks, these are the most repetitive ones.
How to Defeat the King and the Second Prince of the Flowing Sands Kingdom
click to enlarge + 2Those mentioned above are the Rat Prince’s go-to attack moves. Dodging each of them is easier than other boss fights in the game. Sweeping attacks are his most used—this is good news since it gives you a vast window to go on the offensive.
A variation of the sweeping attack is when the Prince jumps slightly into the air and charges toward you with his mace spinning around him. The countering strategy is similar to his other sweeping attacks, but unlike them, this attack grants you a wide window to land multiple light and heavy combos.
You can also use the Immobilize Spell to freeze the Rat Prince. Couple the light-heavy combos with the Wandering Wight Summon, and you’ll be able to land deadly blows to the Son and lower his health significantly.

After defeating the father-son duo, you’ll receive the following rewards:
- Two Silk
- 1,014 Will
- Two Stone Spirit
- 1,102 Experience Points
- Two Yaoguai Core
- Second Rat Prince Spirit
- One Blood of the Iron Bull
- One Pungent Flesh Chunk
