Lords of the Fallen, like most other games that fall under the soulslike genre, is difficult at the best of times. Thankfully, you can enlist the help of your friends in co-op, whether on the same console or via crossplay, but the online capabilities may be a blood-stained double-edged sword.

Does Lords of the Fallen have PvP?
Lords of the Fallen looks to bring soulslike players together in more ways than one. Not only can you take on the plethora of challenges in Mournstead together with a partner, but you can also choose to invade another Lampbearer and send them to Umbral and beyond. In short, yes, Lords of the Fallen has a PvP mode.
The PvP mode of Lords of the Fallen fits right in with the general gameplay, as you can invade or be invaded by another player while traversing Mournstead. There are certain areas where this is commonplace and others where the game won't allow it, but you can compete with others by visiting a Vestige. Within the Vestige options, you'll find "Slaughter Lampbearer," which allows you to be transported to someone else's game in an attempt to murder them.
Thankfully, you won't need to be on the receiving end of an invasion alone. When you are subjected to one, you will be able to fight the assailant with the help of your co-op partner. If you don't already have one, the game will perform some matchmaking for you so you'll be greeted by an ally and adversary simultaneously.
There are benefits to competing with other players, as you would expect. It's an excellent way to earn extra Vigor outside of your own story progress, which you can use to purchase items and level up your character. Additionally, you'll also be up for some special PvP currency if you can come out on top of the exchange.
How to instigate or avoid PvP invasions
Aside from visiting Vestiges, you can voluntarily opt in for someone to invade you. Alternatively, for those looking to avoid the blade of another player, there is a way to avoid, at least temporarily, being invaded.
How to instigate an invasion
If you're looking for a fight, then there's an item in Lords of the Fallen that is perfect for you. By using the Charred Finger consumable, you can voluntarily choose to be invaded by another player for a boost in Vigor and currency. These are in infinite supply from some NPCs; it'll be a matter of finding the right ones!
How to avoid being invaded
Lords of the Fallen gives players more than enough challenges with their in-game enemies and bosses and for some, that's more than enough. If you're looking to avoid being invaded by fellow gamers, you can use an item called a Mirror of Protection.
This will provide you with a temporary ward that will ensure that you can't be invaded as long as it is active and can be purchased from select NPCs, so keep your eye out! If you are getting to a particularly tricky part of the game (i.e. the whole thing) or struggling with low or withered health, it's a good time to protect yourself from being jumped.
