When it comes to live service games like Marvel Rivals, the meta is always changing, and players should expect changes with every season, the recent Marvel Rivals April 24 patch doesn't do much to shake the meta.

Just in, the devs have released patch notes for the middle of the season, and there are certain characters that will be getting nerfed and buffed—plus some notes on how the devs calculate the numbers during matches to see how better they can balance things out.

Marvel Rivals April 24 Patch Notes

In the latest Dev Talk (Vol. 13 to be exact), the devs talk about how they’ve been observing the matches for the second season and how they’ve realized that they needed to increase the survivability of some Strategist characters. The notes read:

“In the upcoming patch, we will enhance the damage capabilities of certain Strategists to elevate their threat levels, which in turn, will increase team composition possibilities. Additionally, we will make minor adjustments to a few heroes.”

Among the heroes that will be getting nerfed, they are:

  • Captain America – reduced survivability
  • Groot – reduced survivability
  • Spider-Man – Decrease in Spidey’s Amazing Combo damage range

As for heroes that will be receiving buffs, they’re going to be:

  • Doctor Strange – less energy required for Ultimate
  • Winter Soldier – buffs to Tainted Voltage and Team-Up ability

The notes also confirm that the Strategists are going to have some increased damage to help with their offensive capabilities aside from being able to heal teammates.

Balancing Act

As is the trouble with any hero shooter that’s live service, the devs always have to find ways to keep balancing the roster and to make sure that everyone is having fun—not just the people who are very efficient at taking everyone else out.

The patch notes confirm:

“… Compared to previous seasons, a small number of Duelists have a slight advantage in performance ratings in Season 2.0, while some Vanguards and Strategists face a slight disadvantage. However, most heroes remain balanced. In the upcoming patch, we will optimize the performance rating calculations based on the latest data to ensure fairness across all heroes.”

Anyone who’s played Overwatch knows that balancing the game between patches is always going to be a given, and despite all the praise that Marvel Rivals has been getting, balancing is something that is always going to be tweaked and adjusted.

Let’s just hope that Ultron’s arrival is going to entice even more people to take on Strategists roles because I need heals, dammit!
