Metaphor: ReFantazio is home to many fantasy tropes in its 80-100 hours of playtime. Among them are fairies, bat-like tribes called Eugiefs, and wing-clad races like the Ishkia. Yet underneath its magical hood lies a strange sci-fi element.

Mild spoilers here for mid-game content

The ability to Teleport is by far the most surprising thing I’ve ever encountered in Metaphor: ReFantazio. It’s not because this mechanic came out of nowhere, it just felt so out of place in a world where we get Elf-life Roussaintes and the horned Clemars. It serves as the game’s means of fast traveling, pretty useful for getting from point A to point B in a jiffy.

In this guide, here’s how to Unlock and Use the Teleportation Mechanic:

Unlocking Teleportation

To unlock the ability of Teleportation, you must reach June 28th on the game’s 5-day Calendar system. This is the part where Neuras joins the crew and is the sole pilot of your trusty Gauntlet Runner.

After a brief cutscene with him in the Engine Room, the reactor-like wall triggers a small electrical discharge when the Protagonist gets close. Neuras is baffled by this strange addition to the Runner. He reflects back to the time when the Prince commissioned to make this specific part of the ship.

The next day, June 29th, you can finally get your answers. It is a Teleportation machine capable of taking the crew and the Gauntlet Runner to a location on the map. It is an instantaneous teleporter machine that doesn’t advance time, nor mess up your schedule.

Going back and forth from one location to another is an important tool in your fight for the throne.

This is where the game actually opens up.

The Rules

The Gauntlet Runner’s teleportation machine has its limits. It can’t just simply take you and your party into another part of the map without a catch. That’s too OP for a game that deals with time management.

The Teleportation’s rule is that you have to physically be in a location first before you can teleport to it. You can’t go to Grand Trad without taking in the sights first as the Protagonist needs to imagine what the place looks like. The strange machinery in the Gauntlet Runner is like a mini portal that reads the Protagonist’s mind. So focusing on the smell, the sights, and the noise is essential.

Keep in mind that there are certain sections in the story where you can’t use the teleportation machine. You wouldn’t want to be traveling to the Royal Capital when your life is literally on the line.

If you're familiar with Persona 5’s fast-travel system, teleportation basically shares the same kinks. The only difference is there’s no fee and no Bullet Trains to ride.

Pressing the R1 button on your controller, or the M button on the Keyboard can give you access to locations you’ve been to before. Simply pick wherever you want to go and let the Teleporter do the rest.
