In Metaphor: ReFantazio, followers are key allies you encounter throughout your journey. They help you develop relationships and offer support as you strengthen your bonds with them.
As you bond with them, they unlock new abilities for you and your party in battles. This article explains how to unlock followers in Metaphor: ReFantazio to enrich your gaming journey.
How To Unlock All Followers in Metaphor: ReFantazio
There are 14 followers, each associated with a specific Archetype that unlocks as you deepen your bond with them.
Some followers are naturally unlocked through the main storyline, while others need you to complete specific quests or side missions to fulfill their bond requirements.
Here’s a guide on how to unlock all followers:
1. More
Seeker Archetype
More is your first follower, and you unlock him very early in the game. He is introduced automatically during the game’s tutorial as you learn about the Archetype system. From this point forward, he becomes a permanent follower.
2. Gallica
Mage Archetype
Gallica joins you naturally during the game's early stages as you progress through the story. You’ll first meet her after completing the Nord Mines section of the game.
As the narrative progresses, you'll encounter her when the game introduces the concept of analyzing enemies.
3. Strohl
Warrior Archetype
Strohl is unlocked once you reach Grand Trad, specifically after you engage in a series of quests tied to the Grand Cathedral. You’ll encounter him during a mission involving a refugee crisis.
He will initially offer help to the protagonist and formally join your party after the situation is resolved.
4. Hulkenberg
Knight Archetype
Hulkenberg is unlocked as part of a defense mission later in the main story, specifically after you advance through the Royal Funeral plot arc in Grand Trad.
She becomes part of your group as you deal with a major conflict involving rival knights. She doesn’t require a specific quest to unlock, but you’ll need to reach this point in the story to recruit her as your defense specialist.
5. Heismay
Thief Archetype
Heismay is unlocked later in the game during a mission centered around a kidnapping plot in Martira. Your party should clear Heismay’s name and prove his innocence.
This mission involves tracking down evidence and confronting the culprits in the story. Once you complete this part of the narrative, Heismay will be recruited as a follower.
6. Junah
Masked Dancer Archetype
To unlock Junah, you need to complete the side quest Save the Mourning Snakes on Virga Island. This quest opens up once you reach the Village of Pagans.
After chatting with Junah in the village, she assigns you the quest to take down the Mourning Snakes boss in a newly unlocked dungeon. After defeating the Mourning Snakes boss, Junah will officially join your party as a follower.
7. Eupha
Summoner Archetype
Eupha is unlocked by completing the Trial of Malnova quest. This quest starts after you encounter Eupha on Virga Island and follows the storyline of her becoming trapped in the Dragon Temple.
You’ll need to defeat the dungeon’s boss and rescue her to unlock her. Once you finish this quest, Eupha becomes a follower in your party.
8. Basilio
Berserker Archetype
Basilio is unlocked later in the game after completing several story missions tied to the Montario area. Specifically, he becomes available after you face missions where your party battles both beasts and human enemies.
Basilio’s bond and recruitment happen once these key battles are resolved, and his background is explored in the main story. No side quests are needed; we are just advancing through the narrative until this point, which will recruit him.
9. Neuras
Gunner Archetype
Neuras is unlocked by completing the side quest Providing a Spark. This quest becomes available once you arrive in Komero Village during the middle stages of the game.
Neuras asks for help retrieving ancient relics from a series of dungeons scattered worldwide. To unlock him, you must explore these dungeons and collect the relics he needs.
After completing the task, Neuras becomes a permanent member of your team as a Gunner specialist.
10. Maria
Healer Archetype
Maria is unlocked automatically as part of the main story progression. You meet her after advancing through a significant plot event where your party requires healing support.
Her introduction happens when you advance past the first major dungeon, and she formally joins your party. Since Maria’s unlock is story-based, no extra quests are needed to recruit her.
11. Brigitta
Merchant Archetype
Brigitta is unlocked after completing the side quest A Bullish Embargo. This quest becomes available on Sunlumeo Street once you reach Wisdom Rank 2.
Brigitta tasks you with defeating a boss known as the Grotesque Guptauros in the Belega Corridor dungeon. You’ll have to track down this dungeon, navigate it, and beat the boss.
After you finish the task and return to Brigitta, she joins your party as a follower.
12. Catherina
Brawler Archetype
Catherina becomes available when you assist her during the Grand Trad Cathedral storyline. This event involves helping her in a hostage rescue mission inside the cathedral.
You’ll need to fight through enemies and complete this story-driven event, and once it’s finished, Catherina will officially join your party as a Brawler.
You don’t need to do anything outside of this mission to unlock her, but it is a critical story event.
13. Alonzo
Faker Archetype
To unlock Alonzo, you must complete the quest A Dagger, a Ring, and a Rake in Martira. To begin this quest, you must raise your Imagination Rank to 2.
The quest takes you to the Abandoned Tomb mini-dungeon, where you’ll face tricky enemies, including powerful mimic creatures.
The final boss (a more dangerous variant of these enemies) must be defeated to finish the quest. Once you complete this quest, Alonzo will join your party and offer his unique skills in dealing with enemies.
14. Bardon
Commander Archetype
Bardon is unlocked after completing the main questline in Martira Dungeon, specifically after resolving the conflict there and assisting Bardon in stabilizing the city’s governance.
To unlock him, you need to help him with several city-related tasks and leadership decisions, after which he becomes available as a follower.
