Not sure what the best FR 5.56 loadout is in Modern Warfare 3? In this guide, we'll give you all the details on the top loadouts for the gun, as well as how good the gun is compared to its competitors.
In Modern Warfare 3, the FR 5.56 looks identical to the classic Famas assault rifle, which features in many FPS video games including 2009's Modern Warfare 2. It's expected that the FR 5.56 will share the Famas' burst-fire feature, able to kill an opponent with just three bullets.

What is the best Modern Warfare 3 FR 5.56 loadout?
- Perks: Overkill / Commando / Lightweight / Hijacked IFF Strobe
- Grenades: Semtex / Smoke Grenade
This build focuses on improving the range and recoil control of the FR 5.56 to ensure high levels of accuracy are maintained at all times. Combined with these four perks, it's very easy to land shots near or far.
Best Modern Warfare 3 FR 5.56 attachments
After testing numerous attachment combinations, this set of five manages to improve the FR 5.56 in all areas:
- Barrel: 600mm FR Longbore
- Optic: Slate Reflector
- Comb: FR Giga
- Underbarrel: Kimura RYN-03 Vertical Grip
- Rear Grip: SA ION
Up first is the 600mm FR Longbore barrel for boosts in damage range and bullet velocity which guarantees the FR 5.56 eliminates targets with a couple of well-placed bursts to the upper body regardless of range.
Sometimes, an enemy can appear out of thin air which is where the FR Giga comb comes into play thanks to faster sprint-to-fire and aim-down speeds. The recoil of the FR 5.56 can prove tricky to tame so we've opted for the SA ION rear grip and the Kimura RYN-03 Vertical Grip for reductions to gun kick and recoil to stop the bounce from disrupting accuracy at longer distances.
Best Modern Warfare 3 FR 5.56 perks and equipment
Below, we’ve got the best perks and equipment to use alongside the FR 5.56 in your loadout.
Perks
- Vest: Overkill
- Gloves: Commando
- Boots: Lightweight
- Gear: Hijacked IFF Strobe
When using the FR 5.56, the best vest to use is probably Overkill, as you'll want to improve the assault rifle's mobility. Taking the Commando gloves will allow you to reload while sprinting, which is a useful ability to have when closing down opponents at long range.
To complement the Commando gloves, we suggest using the Lightweight boots, which will allow you to move faster before and during gunfights. Lastly, we prefer to take the Hijacked IFF Strobe, as being undetectable by AI target systems and thermal optics makes the gameplay experience much less frustrating.
Equipment
- Lethal: Semtex
- Tactical: Smoke Grenade
For your tactical equipment, we think the Smoke Grenade pairs best with the FR 5.56. This will allow you to block the opponent's lines of sight for long angles, enabling you to close the distance or reposition appropriately.
Meanwhile, Semtex is the best lethal equipment that synergises well with the FR 5.56. You'll want the majority of your engagements to occur at medium range, and the FR 5.56's burst fire is often ineffective in close-range fights. Therefore, you can utilise Semtex's sticky quality to confirm the kill if you miss your spray.
Is the Modern Warfare 3 FR 5.56 meta?
There's every chance the FR 5.56 never features in the Modern Warfare 3 meta due to its burst-firing mechanism but that's not to say it's one of the most underrated assault rifles available. The ability to kill with a single burst is bound to prove popular if you're after an alternative build to make an impact with.
