November 1, 2023: Ahead of launch, we've updated our guide with everything you need to know about how to disable Modern Warfare 3 crossplay.

Playing on console and tired of PC players, or vice versa? Modern Warfare 3 will let you stick to your own platform. In this guide, we'll explain how to disable crossplay in Modern Warfare 3.

Crossplay has historically been a great way to keep a game's servers busy for longer, and 'does the game have crossplay?' is the first question on many players' minds. It can be tiring to go up against hackers or have your team populated by people who don't know how to use a controller, however, and 'does the game let me disable crossplay?' is often the second question on the same players' minds.

Can you disable crossplay in Modern Warfare 3?

Yes, you can disable crossplay in Modern Warfare 3! It's as easy as a few button presses, and can be re-enabled at any time - you just need to know where to look. You should also be aware that you can't toggle the feature while in a lobby or during active gameplay, and that disabling crossplay can lead to longer matchmaking times.

The option to disable crossplay was previously limited to PlayStation players, but has now become available for all.

How to disable crossplay in Modern Warfare 3

On PlayStation, you'll start from the main menu, press Options, navigate along to Settings, and scroll down to Account and Network. The first option you'll see is Crossplay, at which point you can toggle it off. Crossplay communication can also be disabled here.

On Xbox, disabling crossplay is slightly more involved. Go to the main console's general settings, open the Online Safety and Family tab, and select Privacy and Online Safety. You'll then want to open Xbox Privacy, scroll down to Communication and Multiplayer, and finally change the 'cross-network play' settings to 'block'. This may also require a console restart - what a hassle!
