With the Monster Hunter: Wilds Open Beta rolling out for PlayStation 5, Xbox X/S, and Steam, everyone is pumped to return to CAPCOM’s highly anticipated action RPG.

Like the rest of the Monster Hunter titles, the Monsters are the game’s main selling point. It’s hard to deny, considering CAPCOM’s growing list of creatures tend to get bonkers with its design and lore.

From Small Wyverns to the fearsome Elder Dragons, Monster Hunter takes pride in its rogue’s gallery of rampaging beasts.

In Monster Hunter: Wilds, we’re introduced to a selection of brand-new foes to slay, including the Flying Wyvern Rey Dau.

Understanding the Rey Dau

Before we hunt this monster, let’s have a brief lore dump.

The Rey Dau is the Apex of the Windward Plains, a master of electricity and the sands. Its move set includes channeling an electric railgun that can one-shot unsuspecting hunters. So be careful it enters a supercharged state.

Besides shooting powerful lasers in your general direction, the Rey Dau can also create glass armor on its wings. Using electricity, it can temper the sand and transform the surrounding area into a glass-filled arena.

The Rey Dau is the first of the many Apex Predators that roam around Monster Hunter: Wilds, but its presence can be found mainly in the game's first area, the Windward Plains.

The Rey Dau's Location

Finding the Rey Dau is easy. If you’ve been playing the Open Beta for quite a while, you begin to notice Monster Hunter: Wilds’ fancy new dynamic weather system. Each day is cycled through three states, namely Fallow, Plenty, and Inclemency. We should focus on the Inclemency period.

Inclemency is a weather condition that brings unpredictable phenomena in the area. For example, the Sandtide is its most dangerous cycle in the Windward Plains. When the sands sweep through the land and thunderstorms strike from above, you’ll know you’re close to finding the Rey Dau.

Open your map and find a mysterious icon marked with “???” and let your Seikret and the scout flies take you there.

Once you get its attention, it’s time to see if you’ve got the mettle to stand against the apex of the sands. If you’ve familiarized yourself with Wilds’ controls, slaying the Rey Dau should be no problem.

Just be careful of the thunderstorms that strike randomly in the area. Your vision can also become impaired due to the enveloping sandstorm that covers the area.

You can fire an SOS flare to call on hunters online or play with AI companions if the worst comes to worst.

Once the Rey Dau is defeated, its quest can be repeated by talking to your handler, Alma.

The Rey Dau may be a threat, but it is just the first of the many Apex monsters we will encounter in Monster Hunter: Wilds. One is the Lala Barina, a Temnoceran spider that can cause paralysis using its rose-like abdomen.
