Spoilers on the horizon - What can we expect from Eldraine?
A return to Eldraine is on the cards; drawing inspiration from beloved fairy tales and Arthurian legends, this new set promises a refreshing take on the MTG universe.
Cards like Will, Scion of Peace and Syr Ginger, the Meal Ender, hint at a mesmerizing blend of magic and might. There are also a number of new and revised mechanics, such as Adventure, Bargain, and Celebration.
The set will also introduce a new aura enchantment type named Roles, these colourless tokens give them new abilities when attached to a creature. On the topic of creatures, Rats and Mice get multiple cards and tribal support in red and black. Other notable creature types are Nightmares, Faeries, Giants and Satyrs.
Fans can also expect just one new Planeswalker: Ashiok, Wicked Manipulator.
The major villain of Wilds of Eldraine, Ashiok, is a unique and really rather powerful new card that is sure to be highly sought after.
Wilds of Eldraine Commander
The Wilds of Eldraine will arrive with two commander decks: Fae Dominion and Virtue and Valor.
Fae Dominion is a blue/black fairy tribal deck, while Virtue and Valor are green/white. The former is a controlling deck centred on the Faeries, while the latter features plenty of enchants and buffs to get the most out of your creatures.
Looking ahead
While Wilds of Eldraine is yet to grace our decks, and its promise is undeniable, it's far from the only release we are set to get this year.
In October, we can expect the highly-anticipated Universes Beyond Dr Who set, bringing the Time Lord into the ultimate fantasy setting.
That will be followed by Underground World-inspired The Lost Caverns of Ixalan in November, which will also see the appearance of dinosaurs and characters from the world of Jurassic Park.
It's a great time to be an MTG fan / bad time for our wallets, and we are here for it.
